As you may have heard, Anson Parsons was nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) Pathways to STEM program by Mrs. Simundson for this Summer in Seattle. Mrs. Simundson nominated him because of his exceptional maturity, scholastic merit and leadership potential even at his young age.

He received a letter on 1/11/2023 congratulating him as he had been accepted to attend the program. He was overwhelmed with emotions and broke down in tears upon reading the good news.
This camp is designed to give future leaders an unparalleled opportunity while still in elementary school to discover their personal strengths and to begin to acquire the leadership and life skills needed for academic and career success.

The program will give Anson the opportunity to explore a future career in three exciting STEM pathways. Medicine, engineering, and crime scene investigation (CSI).

Anson hopes to advance his STEM skills during this program and has already decided he wants to become a mechanical or an electrical engineer. He has been building extremely complex Lego kits for years and truly enjoys building, dismantling and rebuilding them time and time again. He especially loves the mechanical kits that involve operating transmissions, rear differentials and full suspension.
Although he was nominated and accepted, the program is not covered financially. The program is 6 full days and requires overnight accommodations to be reserved by a parent/guardian. The cost for the program is $2,645 not including hotel stay, transportation costs or food expenses.

We are fully committed for him to attend this program, but any extra help would be greatly appreciated.

We will be selling Valentine’s Day sugar cookies to help cover the cost of some of the expenses. The prices for the cookies will be $15 for a half dozen and $25 for a dozen and will be boxed with a ribbon.

Cookie orders can be emailed to [email protected]. Or you can call/text 509-947-5775

We will be accepting orders until Tuesday, February 7th

Anything helps and we thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

Sincerely,
Ashley Parsons

Wow! Our Wiley families are amazingly generous. We are so thankful for all of you.

Our family who had the fire have been overwhelmed by your generosity. They now have clothes, blankets, food, winter supplies, etc. They do not have room for any other physical items at this time, since they currently do not have a place to live.

If you would like to continue giving gift cards, food cards, and monetary donations, they are very grateful and can use those at this time. Once they are settled again, we will let everyone know of any items that they could use.

Once again, thank you everyone! You are appreciated.

Another note: If you would like to donate a toy or clothing item to a few other Wiley families in need of a Christmas boost, please email our Wiley Counselor, Taylor Sandoval, and she can let you know what is needed.

Hello Wiley Families,

What an amazing start to the school year. We are so excited and seeing all of our students doing so well. We are happy to have everyone back and have such a great kick off. There is a lot happening over the next couple of weeks that I want you to be aware of:
• The PTA will have the goodwill trailer parked at the school starting on Tuesday this week and will be here through Friday. If you have any items to give to goodwill please bring them to the school and put them in the trailer. Wiley uses this as a fundraiser several times per year.
• The bookfair will be the week of September 19th-23rd. It will be open until 3:45pm Monday-Thursday and 3pm on Friday. It will also be open on September 20th from 5:30pm-7:00pm during and after our open house.
• Wiley’s open house is Tuesday, September 20th from 5:30pm-6:30pm. There is no set agenda. Use this time to visit the classrooms, teachers, and the bookfair. We hope you can make it.
• Picture day is Wednesday, September 21st. Packets will be sent home this week. You can also order online from this link. https://www.dorianstudio.com/search/account/8fb901f7-1622-4178-94f3-633033e38395/
• There is no kindergarten on Friday, September 23rd. This is the final day of the kinder/parent meetings.

That is all for this week. I hope you are all doing well.

Hello Wiley Families!

The day is almost here. For our 1st-5th grade students school starts tomorrow morning, August 30th. For our Kinder students school starts on Thursday, September 1st. School start time is 8:45. We would like students to be in line ready to go at 8:40am.
Meet and Greet: We hope to see you at our meet and greet today, August 29th, from 2:00pm-3:00pm. You will have a chance to see your classrooms and meet your teachers and the rest of the staff. We are excited to welcome you back.

School Supplies
School supplies are provided by the Richland School District. Students will need some sort of ear buds/headphones for use with their Chromebooks, a backpack, and a box of baggies. Your child’s teacher will give you additional information once they get into class. If you are having difficulty getting any of those items please let us know.
School Times
Monday- Thursday-School starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15. We ask that students are in their lines and ready to go by 8:40. Students may arrive at school no earlier than 8:30am unless they are eating breakfast, then they may arrive at 8:15. We do not have supervision outside until 8:30am.
On Friday’s school starts at 8:45 and every Friday is an early release for the Richland School District. Students are released at 2:15.

Drop off/Pick up
Help us by following the rules at drop off and pick up. There will be certain areas to pick up your students in both the front and back parking lots. Please help us out and do not drop off or pick up in the bus loop. Also, please do not park in the front loop. That is for drop off only. If you would like to walk your child to their line please park in a marked spot and walk with them. If you use the back parking lot, please drive slowly and be patient and respectful. The lot can get busy and the safety of our students is our number one concern.

Line-Up
Students will line up with their classes on the backside of the school between the main building and the modular. There will be a cone set up with the teacher’s name attached. Students will line up behind that cone. Kinder and 1st grade line up on the basketball courts. 2nd grade lines up near the small shed on the back side of the main building. 3rd-5th grade line up outside of the modular.
Breakfast/Lunch
Great news for Wiley students. Wiley has qualified as a CEP (Community Eligibility Program) school. All students at CEP schools receive meals at no cost. This is not the same as being qualified for free meals; rather we just do not charge them. Students receive free breakfast and lunch. Milk for students who bring their lunch from home will still cost $.50 because it is considered an ala carte item.

School Needs
We have some school needs this year. We have a caring corner at Wiley. In the caring corner we stock a food pantry and some clothing for our families in need. We will need to restock our pantry to get ready for our year. Nonperishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti and sauces, granola bars, snack type foods are always needed and appreciated.

PBIS
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior schoolwide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement is creating and maintaining a positive school climate for the students and teachers. Now, how does PBIS Rewards help with that? PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. These behavior expectations are defined by the school then communicated and taught. So, when your child displays the behavior that is expected, they are recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store. PBIS Rewards is helping Wiley create a positive climate in which every student can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

With our new rewards system in place we need some bigger ticket items donated that students can earn raffle tickets for through positive behaviors. We will have drawings for those bigger ticket items once per trimester. We are looking for items like movie theater gift cards (for a movie day with the principal), food places gift cards (so students can have lunch delivered to them) and other bigger items for a raffle. If you have an idea of something you would like to donate please let me know.

See you soon!

Good Morning Wiley!

A great day for field day right?

As of right now field day is still a go. Maybe an extra set of clothes in the backpack might be a good idea for today? Just in case.........

Thanks

Paul
