This is Pride Month. Many people are opposed to "Pride Month" because they feel it glorifies lifestyles they oppose. But Pride month came about for a reason. Pride Month came into being to raise awareness of those who live and love outside the "normal" male and female or one man / one woman life. It came into being because they were fired, abused, beaten, arrested and killed for how they loved.

There has been and still is a lot of hatred thrown at people for their differences. Maybe it would be better to toss love, kindness and friendship to those who are hated. Maybe, someday it will be your child or grandchild who you are hating?

Have you considered that maybe them loving the same s*x or wanting to change their outward appearance to align with their inner being is their concern and NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS? "Oh, but they are forcing it into my face, they are forcing me to participate."

No, they are simply showing the world there are a lot more of them than you thought, and they will not hide in the shadows and be mistreated any longer. They will no longer lie down and die to appease your hatred and bigotry. Have you wondered that maybe your hatred and bigotry are what are driving people away from you and your religions in droves?

Jesus himself chose to eat with the sinners, the lepers, the unwanted and he was killed because he spoke of a different way of living. Do you wonder where he would sit today? I'm sure many of the "righteous and upright" in their selfish PRIDE of their own beliefs and standards believe he would choose to eat with them? But I believe he would choose to eat with the downtrodden, the persecuted, those who have to fear being "outed" and treated as less than good enough.

When our SON Bryan came out as trans, I was very saddened that so many who supported our daughter Kira, chose not to come support him at his graduation. Many of those who over the years professed to love and support him were silent and absent. Others were viciously upright in their Christian RIGHTNESS with one professing he would have "been better off dead than trans".

Yes, a "loving, GOD fearing Christian" told me that my son would be better off dead. This is someone who has known my child from infancy, who has seen them grow up and yet they threw away that relationship like yesterdays' trash and my son with it. That person, and so many others, who chose not to support and love my child are the REASON I no longer attend church.

I love the Creator, I pray frequently but I will never again attend a church. I refuse to sit beside those who would and do condemn my child or anyone else's child to loneliness, judgement and torment on earth because they don't follow the narrow line of biblical beliefs. I was told I had failed my child because they were trans.

I have not failed my child because they are trans, they did not choose to be trans. They did choose to change their outward appearance to match their inner guidance. It saddens me that so many in the church and in the world feel that g**s, le****ns, and trans people and Pride Month are an attack on their personal beliefs.

It is not, it is an acknowledgement of them and their own lives. And maybe sometimes it seems "over the top, outrageous and flamboyantly" in your face, but I see the love and humor in the LGBTQ+ community's acceptance and pride in taking what has been the most negative stereotypes and making them their own.
You want to make it seem like all gay men are "queens", fine we'll take that...and double down and OWN IT!

Oh, you want your own month? Ummm, you have the other 11, right? Why can't we all have all 12 months together and live and love in peace, accepting people's difference without believing they say something about our own beliefs? Their desire for equal rights and equal treatment does not diminish your rights. And if you think it does, you are a huge part of the problem.

Let us come together to be the solution. To serve others in love and not judgement, to sow kindness and affirmation of the strengths we see instead of tearing others apart is after all, the CHRISTIAN thing to do.

Sometimes I have to get outside, walk away from all the noise of life and sit in nature to be able to hear the messages meant for me.

Last year I sat up here in the Blue Mountains just listening to the wind and the Creator for over an hour.

During that time I heard the Creator tell me that "respect for yourself is as important as respect for the world and people around you. If you do not value yourself and know your own worth, no one else will either."

In response to this message I am in the process of identifying those who do not mean me well. If I have to remove people from my circle, I will do it. When I have to put up walls to keep out those who do not mean me well, who have lied to me, stabbed me in the back and talked dirt about me, I will do it freely, with the strongest intentions and emotional bricks in my arsenal.

For anyone or me, blocking out anyone who does not have your best interest at heart is a form of loving yourself. So, I will drop that match and burn that bridge and walk away without looking back if you have done me harm.

Then I will spend my time talking with and listening to the Creator of all that is. The one Creator who has said, "Fear not for I am with you."

How amazing is it that the Creator, who made everything in the universe, who pieced me together in my mother's womb, who says he knew me before I was ever born, is on my side. The Creator has my back.

I know there will be some out there who will say that I am supposed to forgive and forgive and forgive what is it 70 x 7 times? But my take is that if they continue to commit the same offense or similar, after begging my forgiveness and promising no to do it again, then their repentance and apology was not genuine, and I am not staying near that type of person.

When there is never any apology, resentment builds. When I have explained the offense and they refuse to accept the offense or apologize and then repeat the actions, there can be no reconciliation or recovery.

The thing I must do then is forgive them. Why? Because forgiveness is for me. Forgiving allows me to move on and release the attachment to them and the offense. It does not mean I have forgotten.

"Forgive and forget" is a phrase that is often spoken but in reality, few ever forget. Forgetting removes the protection that is provided by remembering.

Forgiveness is a gift for me, forgetting is a gift for them and they no longer get free gifts from me. Forgetting their actions leaves me open to allowing it to happen again and again and I am no longer open to that energy.

Yes, I will build that wall, so that I do not have the option of forgetting how their actions hurt me and destroyed my trust. That boundary wall is for my protection and theirs. Believe me, if they blow past a boundary after set it and told them not to do it, they deserve whatever damage they receive. It is called the consequences of thier actions, AKA karma.

May karma, kick them in the bum if they don't believe my boundaries mean them too!

Sometimes I may miss them, miss our conversations but I am better without those people. I am better to me. I am better able to be emotionally and mentally healthy when I leave behind those who do not respect my boundaries.

Think about this for yourself. How many times will you forgive the same offense form the same offender? (doesn't apply to children or teens because we know their job is push boundaries right?) Are you willing to let bygones be bygones and put the past behind you without them showing you any respect?

So freaking wrong.

This is so true. For so many years it felt impossible to me to have people over because my house was messy and I was so afraid of being judged. Then I met a wonderful woman who became my dearest friend.

She invited me over no matter what her house, her kids, or she looked like. I became comfortable with my own imperfection by sitting with her in friendship. True deep down sisterhood friendship happens when you accept and are accepted at your deepest level.

I was able to loosen up and no longer fear that others would judge me, because I learned it is about the heart and the connection between souls not about how many dirty dishes are in the sink or how messy the living room is.

My house still shows evidence of Scattered mess with a chance of organization but it no longer makes me fear I cannot have people over. If they want to judge my housekeeping they can. I welcome anyone to my home, imperfect as it is.

As women when we can be with each other in the mess of life, in the messy deep heartfelt emotions, in the messy house sharing a much needed hug or laugh that is truly where love shines.

The highest honor of friendship isn't getting invited to "that party" or out on a girls weekend. It's not clinking champagne glasses at fancy brunches or wearing matching shirts on a beach in Florida. That all is nice and fun and good and special, but it's not what it's about, not at all.

The real honor of friendship is being invited into someone's REAL. It's getting an invitation into the nitty gritty, the not-so-pretty, the hard stuff, the vulnerable stuff, the weird stuff, the unpolished stuff. It's being welcomed into a home where the sink is full of dishes and the laundry is covering the couch. It's entering the places of heart ache and pain. It's being invited to the hospital room when your friend is still in her mesh underwear from birth. It's sitting crosslegged in old sweats on the floor and laughing till you cry. It's carrying around secrets that you've been trusted to keep. It's listening and hearing. It's holding space for each other. It's answering phone calls just to talk something through.

The highest honor of friendship isn't found in beautifully planned events or brightly filtered photos.

The highest honor of friendship is messy and dingy and real. It's in unfiltered photos of laughing so hard your double chin is showing. It's loving each other's babies and holding each other while you ugly cry.

I can't stress this enough:

If you've been invited into even one person's real, you are blessed.

Cherish it.

Love,
Jess
