The IOCT is back.

This week, Firsties and Cows from 1st and 2nd Regiments, along with Corps Squad athletes, took on the first Indoor Obstacle Course Test of the academic year.

A longstanding part of the West Point experience, the IOCT tests cadets’ strength, agility, coordination and endurance as they navigate a demanding series of obstacles against the clock.

More than a physical test, the IOCT develops the physical readiness, mental toughness and warrior mindset cadets need to lead under pressure — building disciplined, resilient warfighters ready to fight and win.

Branch Week is about more than seeing what each branch does.

Today, underclass cadets continued exploring static displays, talking with Soldiers and learning more about the missions and opportunities across the Army. Upperclass cadets took a deeper dive, participating in engagement sessions with their top two branches of choice.

Each experience builds on the last, helping cadets turn early exploration into informed decisions about where they hope to serve and lead after graduation.

Branch Week at West Point kicks off with cadets getting an up-close look at the equipment, capabilities and missions that define each branch, from artillery to aviation.

Want to see Branch Week up close? The community is welcome to visit the static displays on the Plain tomorrow, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All visitors without a valid DoD/DoW ID card must obtain a Visitor’s Pass at the Visitor Control Center. Everyone in the vehicle must have their own pass. For further details on how to obtain a pass, please visit westpoint.edu/visitors

Don Rings!

Today, the Class of 2027 received their class rings, forged in part from gold donated by generations of graduates before them.

Now, each Firstie carries a piece of the Long Gray Line with them as they begin their final year at West Point, preparing to join the profession of arms and graduates who have gone before them in service to the nation.

Today, the U.S. Military Academy welcomed leaders from Vietnam’s National Defense Academy to West Point for a professional military engagement supporting U.S. Army Pacific and U.S. Pacific Command defense cooperation objectives.

Vietnam is a key partner in Southeast Asia and plays an important role in advancing regional peace, stability, and a free and open Pacific. Professional military engagements like today’s visit provide opportunities to exchange perspectives on leader development and military education, strengthen relationships, and enhance mutual understanding that contribute to readiness and regional security.

Today, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point held a change of command ceremony presided over by Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Christopher C. LaNeve, marking the transition of leadership for the Academy from the 61st Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, to the 62nd Superintendent, Lt. Gen. James B. Bartholomees III.

We thank Lt. Gen. Gilland and his family for their dedicated service to the Academy and the Corps of Cadets, and welcome Lt. Gen. Bartholomees and his family to West Point.

The Class of 2028 affirmed their commitment: two more years of academic rigor, physical standards, and leader development, followed by a commission to lead Soldiers in the United States Army as second lieutenants.

Taken on the eve of their first day of classes as cows, the Affirmation Oath marks a defining moment in the West Point journey. Joined by their 50-Year Affiliate Class, the Class of 1978, they were reminded of the generations of graduates who have made the same commitment to serve.

Their commitment is a promise to the nation, the Long Gray Line, and the Soldiers they will one day lead.
