Last Saturday at Sword School: Fiore Dagger

Arcadia taught close-range defences and controls from the dagger system of Fiore dei Liberi, an Italian fencing master from the late 14th and early 15th centuries. His surviving works cover dagger, wrestling, sword, spear, and armoured combat.

It was another choice from our rotating Saturday programme, where students can study up to four different weapons in one afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who joined Palm Beach Sword School’s recent Free Intro Class, and to everyone who registered but was unable to attend.

The next opportunity to begin regular training is Sword School Onboarding this Saturday, August 8, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at the
American German Club of the Palm Beaches.

The $300 registration includes:
⚔️ Four-hour Sword School Onboarding
⚔️ A fitted fencing mask
⚔️ A Palm Beach Sword School training shirt after completing the safe-sparring assessment
⚔️ Four additional weeks of Monday and Saturday classes
⚔️ Approximately 26 hours of available training

Attending the Free Intro is not required. Onboarding is suitable for complete beginners and prepares students to enter any regular class not marked Intermediate.

After the four included weeks, continuing training costs $100-$150 every 4 weeks depending on length of commitment. Students who continue will also receive their personal nylon training sword at no additional cost.

Last Saturday at Sword School: Highland Targe

Gianna led last Saturday’s Highland Targe class, pairing the basket-hilted sword with one of Scotland’s most distinctive shields.

Using the two together is more complicated than simply holding a sword in one hand and a targe on the other arm. Students must coordinate defence, position, and attack, keeping themselves covered without allowing the targe to obstruct their own weapon. This photograph caught one of the paired exchanges from the lesson.

With four class periods every Saturday, students can study up to four different weapons, chosen from Palm Beach Sword School’s extensive collection of historical arms.

A new way to begin at Palm Beach Sword School

For years, new sword students began with an eight-week beginner course. It provided a strong foundation, but it also prevented some people from joining because they could not commit to eight consecutive weeks.

The beginner pathway has now been redesigned.

New students will begin with one four-hour Sword School Onboarding course taught through Scottish Broadsword. The course covers the safety, control, movement and partner-training skills required to enter regular classes.

After completing Onboarding, students receive four included weeks of training. An instructor will help each student choose suitable classes from the Monday and Saturday schedule. Beginners may attend any class not marked Intermediate.

At this time, both opportunities are open to students aged 14 and older. Registrations cannot be accepted for anyone younger than 14.

This new format is intended particularly for those who wanted to begin sword training but could not make the former eight-week schedule work.

Facebook responses do not reserve a place. Registration must be completed through the link in the appropriate event.

Registration is open for our next beginner sword class at Palm Beach Sword School.

If you came to Saturday’s free intro class, this is your next step. If you missed it but still want to start sword training, you are welcome to join too.

This 8-week beginner program starts **Saturday, May 23** and meets every Saturday from **4–5 PM**.

Students will be introduced to broadsword, rapier, longsword, and smallsword while learning the fundamentals of Historical European Martial Arts in a safe, structured, beginner-friendly environment.

Beginner registration includes a **fencing mask, training sword, and Palm Beach Sword School T-shirt**.

We have also made it easier to get started by splitting the payment.

Students pay the **registration fee now**, and the remaining class fee is due in **Week 4 of training**.

After Week 4, students will also have the opportunity to join Monday night training and additional Saturday classes.
