🎨✨ ARTS EDUCATION BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

This summer, Dance student Sojie Estime ’27 had the incredible opportunity to train in New York City at the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive, with support from the Cristina Flanagan Summer Dance Program Scholarship through SOAFI! πŸ©°πŸ—½

From living in the Fordham University dorms to walking to Alvin Ailey each day for intensive training, Sojie described the experience as life-changing.

β€œI absolutely loved dancing in NYC. Living in the Fordham dorms and walking to Alvin Ailey every day was such a life-altering experience. I can’t wait to be back in the city!”

During Arts in Education Week, we’re celebrating opportunities like these that extend learning beyond the classroom and help Dreyfoos students grow as artists, explore their potential and take the next steps toward their dreams. πŸ’™

🌎✍️ Dreyfoos student Jayden Toney is writing across borders and making a difference!

At just 14 years old, Communications sophomore Jayden Toney created Write Across Borders, a mentorship program connecting him with 12 students at Spring Garden Primary and Infant School in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Inspired by a desire to give back following Hurricane Melissa, Jayden led virtual creative writing lessons focused on character development, dialogue, descriptive writing and editing, helping students strengthen their skills and build confidence in their own voices.

The program culminated with a special celebration in Jamaica on August 20, where participating students received certificates, prizes and tablets recognizing their hard work and growth.

β€œI’ve been fortunate enough to have access to strong resources and opportunities, so I really just wanted to take some of what I have been given and pay it forward,” Jayden shared.

Jayden hopes to continue growing Write Across Borders and reach even more young writers in the future.

We are proud to see our Dreyfoos students using their creativity, leadership and talents to make an impact beyond our campus. πŸ’™βœ¨
