Remember! You are responsible for your wake!
*Even if you are not in a slow-wake or no-wake zone, make sure to slow down anytime you pass within 500 feet of a smaller boat or a shoreline or marina. By doing so, you ensure your wake will spread out and not be as disruptive.
*Slow down your vessel in advance of reaching the posted wake signs. Otherwise, you risk having your wake effect potentially reaching the restricted areas.
*To proceed with the smallest wake in posted no-wake speed zones, trim the outboard or drive to a vertical position.
*If you’re in a larger boat, idling in gear can still have you going up to 10 mph because they have large propellers. In these cases, it’s advisable to alternatively shift in and out of gear while moving forward.
Make your day boating safe and enjoyable for those you have on board!

Don't Forget To Do Your Safety Checks!
Before you head out, do a walk through of your boat. Check the engine and bilge. Looks for leaks or the smell of fuel.
Open all the hatches before starting and after refueling your boat. Let them air out for at least a few minutes. If you smell fumes, you may need to track down a leak.
Fumes and carbon monoxide can build up in any small, enclosed spaces.
If you have a gasoline powered inboard engine, always run your blower for 4 minutes prior to ignition to remove any potentially dangerous fumes from your engine compartment.

Anchor rode is the line or chain that connects your anchor to your boat. The recommended scope of anchor rode to depth is 7:1. This means, the amount of line and or chain you let out should be 7 times the depth of the water you are sitting in. For example, if you are anchoring in 10 feet of water, you should let out 70 feet of anchor rode. The recommended scope of 7:1 is best for keeping the anchor set and keeps the correct tension on the anchor. It will make for a safe comfortable stay at anchor.

Remember to run your bilge blower!
A Bilge Blower is extremely important especially on a gasoline powered vessel with inboard engines. The blower on a boat is a fan that is used to remove flammable fumes from the engine compartment. This is to help prevent an explosion in the engine compartment whenever the engine is turned on after sitting for an extended period of time. The fumes that build-up are usually caused by a leak in a gas line or hose.

Vest Up Florida!
It's important to have a properly sized life vest available for every adult and child onboard. Children 6 years old and younger on a recreational vehicle 26' and under must wear a USCG approved properly size life vest at all times while underway.
On Vessels that leave FL water boundaries, the USCG requires that all children 13 years old and younger wear a USCG approved life vest at all times unless they are below deck or in a cabin.
