At the UN’s high-level meeting marking 25 years of the Durban Declaration, Marley Dias spoke on the role young people can play when it comes to building a more equitable, anti-racist future for society👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!!! She advocated for youth leadership in the global fight against racism and motivated the next generation to be the
change that they wish to see. Marley along with the other youth activists attending the conference reminded us of our power and advised us to use it by taking action to protect, progress, and educate society. Thank you Marley Dias for continuing to make sure that youth voices are heard🌍!!!

This year’s Conch Shell International Film Festival in NYC will be held from October 9th to October 11th! This film festival was founded in 2021 and continues to solely spotlight independent film projects created, written, and directed by those belonging to the Caribbean diaspora! Happy 10 year anniversary HerFlow Foundation 🇯🇲👸🏾♥️!!!

Founded by Sexual & Reproductive Health Specialist, Shelly-Ann Weeks, in 2016, HerFlow Foundation has spent the last decade championing menstrual and reproductive health, education, fitness, equity, and dignity for women and girls across Jamaica🇯🇲!!

In honor of this incredible milestone, our organization’s President, Dr. Janice Johnson Dias, will represent GrassROOTS Community Foundation by headlining Day Two of HerFlow’s anniversary conference👸🏾 where she’ll be leading the Parenting Fireside Chat! Her keynote address will include conversations centered on raising “informed, confident, and healthy young people” 👧🏾👦🏾

Sonia Fergus and Tori Fergus celebrating 💚💚💚💚!!!

Across the globe, people are constantly experiencing mental health challenges and, due to their schedule/daily responsibilities, oftentimes neglect their wellbeing simply because they don’t have the time to do otherwise. This year alone, the CDC reported that roughly 30 percent of high school students claimed to have been experiencing poor mental health daily over the course of the school year, and only 19 percent of adults in the U.S. were ever told by a doctor or other health care professionals that they had any type of depression disorder. Given these statistics, it is important that we have initiatives like to help further spread awareness on how we can help ourselves and eachother prioritize our wellbeing. We are all victims of mental health challenges in some way or another; Talking about it, understanding why, and not feeling ashamed are great places to start when learning how we can address this public-health crisis.

To Green Ribbon Week in 2022💚!!! This is how the students of West Orange High School celebrated the week in spirit😍💚!!! Creating a wall filled with positive affirmations and encouragement is an example of how you and your community can engage and participate in this initiative to prioritize the mental health of everyone around you, including yourself💚!

I like many of the definitions of racism sociologists use, but one of my favorites comes from a renowned scholar, Dr. Camara Jones. “Racism is a system of structuring opportunity and assigning value based on the social interpretation of how one looks (which is what we call ‘race’), that unfairly disadvantages some individuals and communities, unfairly advantages other individuals and communities, and saps the strength of the whole society through the waste of human resources.”

There’s alot of nuance to the topic of using AI in the classroom and at home. All kids should possess the basic skill of being able to write short, long, and extended essays, but teachers and parents are reporting that students nowadays don’t and are blaming AI chat bots for this predicament.
