Today, Islip Forward attended an event held by State Senator Monica Martinez and Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez (@legislatorsamgonzalez). Our Deputy Director, Joshua Chan, was physically assaulted by Legislator Gonzalez’s Chief of Staff, Luis Montes Brito, and aide, Delaya Huilcapi. While these elected officials smiled for the cameras, collecting their six-figure salaries, immigrant families in our community are living in fear. Senator Martinez — an immigrant from El Salvador — still refuses to support the New York for All Act. Legislator Gonzalez has repeatedly refused, even publicly, to stand with his own constituents against Islip’s ongoing ICE contract, instead preferring to participate in salsa concerts and becoming a radio show personality. We showed up to say what too many politicians hope no one will: You can’t ignore your community and expect silence. Islip Forward will keep showing up. 03/06/2026
