प्रलय में हिंदू भगवान सूर्य देव की भूमिका
काल-ब्रह्म, 'क्षरपुरुष', एक ब्रह्मांड में मुख्यमंत्री की भूमिका निभाता है और इसने अपने तीन पुत्रों रजगुण ब्रह्मा, सतगुण विष्णु, तमोगुण शिव को तीन विभागों के मंत्री के रूप में नियुक्त कर रखा है। इनके अलावा इनके नीचे और भी बहुत से देवी-देवता हैं जो कुल मिला कर 33 करोड़ (मिलियन) हैं जैसे 'वरुण' जल के देवता, भगवान सूर्य जो सभी प्रकाश स्रोतों के लिए उत्तरदायी हैं। इस सौरमंडल में बहुत सारे सूर्य हैं और इन सभी प्रकाश स्रोतों के प्रभारी सूर्य देव हैं। वह अलग मंत्री हैं।

गीता अध्याय 4 श्लोक 5 और 9, अध्याय 2 श्लोक 12, अध्याय 10 श्लोक 2 स्पष्ट करते हैं कि क्षर पुरुष सहित उसके सभी 21 ब्रह्मांड नाशवान हैं।

सूक्ष्म वेद प्रलय में सूर्य देव की भूमिका के बारे में भी बताते हैं। कहा जाता है कि कलियुग के अंत में सात सूर्य पृथ्वी के बहुत निकट आएंगे जिससे पूरी पृथ्वी पर आग लग जाएगी। एक ब्रह्मांड सभी प्राणियों के साथ नष्ट हो जाएगा। चारों तरफ कण और धूल होगी। आग का गोला सूर्य उस एक ब्रह्मांड को राख कर देगा। ईश्वर के नियम के अनुसार सभी प्राणी स्वतः ही अगले ब्रह्मांड में चले जाएंगे। उस समय दुर्गा और यह ब्रह्म-काल भी मर जाते हैं। प्रलय में सूर्य देव की भूमिका यह साबित करती है कि ब्रह्म काल के 21 ब्रह्मांडों में कुछ भी चिरस्थायी नहीं है। काल मरता है, दुर्गा मरती है सूर्य देव भी मरते हैं।

बाद में, पहले की तरह ही अमर परमात्मा / पूर्ण ब्रह्म इस पृथ्वी को दुबारा फिर से बनाते हैं।
