🔬 LSCLS IS MOVING OUR PROFESSION FORWARD! 🔬
The Louisiana Society for Clinical Laboratory Science is working on several important initiatives that can make a real difference for medical laboratory professionals and the communities we serve across Louisiana.
📣 1. HB 1216 — Updating Louisiana Laboratory Licensure Law
The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) has asked LSCLS to take the lead in getting HB 1216 passed during the next legislative session. HB 1216 passed the Louisiana House of Representatives 97–0, but unfortunately became stalled in the Senate. Since then, our Government Affairs Chair has worked tirelessly to revise the bill and make it more likely to successfully move through the legislative process. We are now finalizing the bill and will soon be asking medical laboratory professionals across Louisiana to join us in a GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN to get HB 1216 passed.

Every voice matters, and this is an opportunity for Louisiana's laboratory professionals to make sure our profession is heard at the State Capitol.
🌾 2. Rural Health Transformation Project
LSCLS is also excited to be working toward participation in the Rural Health Transformation Project (RHTP) and helping strengthen the laboratory workforce across rural Louisiana.
We are focusing on two exciting opportunities:
🔬 Grow Your Own — helping individuals from rural Louisiana communities enter the medical laboratory profession and build careers close to home.
🎓 New Education/Training Pathways — developing new ways to expand access to medical laboratory education and training in areas where laboratory professionals are needed.
🔎 3. Outreach & Recruitment — Introducing Students to the Laboratory Profession
One of the most important ways we can strengthen our profession is by introducing students to the exciting opportunities available in medical laboratory science.
- On September 25, LSCLS participated in the Whispering Forest Elementary School Science Day, giving students an opportunity to learn more about science and the important work that happens behind the scenes in healthcare.
And we're not stopping there! A group of LSCLS volunteers will be participating in the St. Tammany Parish College & Career Fairs on October 12 and October 19. We are excited to introduce students to the many career opportunities available in the medical laboratory profession and encourage the next generation of laboratory professionals.
💙 From the classroom to the State Capitol to rural communities across Louisiana, LSCLS is working for the future of our profession.
