Students who are given responsibility and are equipped to be successful (with resources, training, and even accountability) become men and women who are responsible assets to the communities they are part of.
They give, serve, cultivate, and care.
Cornerstone is their school. It’s not the administration’s school, or the teachers’, staff’s, or parents’ school. It’s our school. It belongs to us all.
And when something belongs to us, we take responsibility for it. We “own” it.
We really want students to learn that a community is not simply something they receive from. It is something they build and contribute to.
And the more we invest ourselves in something or someone, the more we tend to care about it.
That’s not a burden. According to the Bible, it really is a blessing!
We believe that a big part of being an educated person and a disciple of Jesus is having the heart, head, and hands of servants that are ready and able to elevate the people around them.
That is why it is not just “someone else’s job” to clean, organize, straighten a classroom, wipe down a board, or empty the trash at the end of the week.
While these might look like small things, they are actually discipleship opportunities that lead us towards a much bigger goal. Namely, becoming men and women that desire to elevate the world around them to Godliness and righteousness.
Do we see an area to help?
Take responsibility. Serve the people around you. Leave the place (or people) better than you found it (or them).
Because someday the community these young men and women will be part of will be much wider than Cornerstone Prep.
It will be their own home, family, church, workplace, neighborhood, city, country.
We want our students to enter those places ready to contribute, cultivate, serve, and bless. And we want those communities to be stronger because they are there…
