Lavender Girls of West Linn

Lavender Girls of West Linn A grass-roots group of West Linn teens who create and sell lavender products to make wishes come true for the children of Children's Cancer Association

Started several years ago by Emily and Lauren Henning's family garden was overgrown with lavender. Their mom asked for ideas on what to do with such an abundance and the girls decided to turn their bounty into a fundraiser. They were familiar with Children's Cancer Association where their mom was and continues to be a chemo pal. This year, the girls will help grant the wish of another worthy warri

or who has bravely battled a life-threatening illness. The grass roots effort has expanded over the years with now over a dozen girls collaborating! The philanthropists-in-training sew little lavender sachets to sell, along with bundles of fresh picked lavender and homemade baked goods. In recent years the demand for lavendar exceeded what backyards were produce and Barn Owl Nursery and Stone Gate Lavender donated a generous amount. Each year CCA provides a list of children and their wishes and the girls decide as a group where the proceeds will go. Several years ago the girls elected to help a four-year-old girl who bravely battled leukemia by contributing their funds toward a fully furnished backyard playhouse complete with a pink iPod and matching speakers. One year, the girls contributed to help Kate, a CCA-served kiddo, swim with the dolphins in Hawaii. The Lavender Girls chose to support CCA because they “wanted to give their money to help kids who haven’t yet had the chance to do a lot of fun things.”
