Nicolás Pellón Piano Studio welcomes students who are serious about their desire to improve themselves musically and pianistically. Students at NPPS receive a thorough, classical training—that is to say, I do not simply "teach songs". Of course I train the fingers, but also the ears, the mind, and musical sensibilities, so that the student learns to understand what he or she is doing and why. I te
ach process, so that the student becomes independent. Ultimately, it is my job to put myself out of a job. Unlike much of the music instruction one finds today, my teaching is tailored to each student's individual needs. I do not teach from a method, or from a series of books. I teach according to artistic and pædagogical principles that I have acquired from my own teachers Mimi Tung, Santiago Rodríguez, and Edward Auer; my formal education at Maryland, Indiana, and numerous summer festivals; and the artists whose teaching I received personally, and witnessed in dozens of masterclasses and lessons that shaped my development, in particular Rebecca Penneys, Tamara Sanikidze, Andreas Poulimenos, and János Starker. The studio functions very much as a whole: of course, the education is centered around private lessons, but equally important for a thorough musical education are the studio classes we hold every few weeks, the group trips to concerts and masterclasses, and our guest artist concerts and masterclasses, all included in tuition. Past Guest Artists:
Edward Auer • Matthew Cataldi • Bradford Gowen • Marian Hahn • PengCheng He • Asiya Korepanova • Santiago Rodríguez • Joel Schoenhals • Dmitri Shelest • Rita Sloan • Maria Sumareva • Misuzu Tanaka • Dmitri Vorobiev
Past Group Trip Concerts:
Martha Argerich • Emanuel Ax • Leon Fleisher • Nelson Freire • Marc-André Hamelin • Evgeny Kissin • Ursula Oppens • Murray Perahia • Santiago Rodríguez • Andras Schiff • Yuri Temirkanov • Yuja Wang
Every student benefits from this immersive approach: the young child whose parents want to expose him or her to music, the driven young person ambitious to pursue a career in music, the curious adolescent, the adult looking to continue a rewarding hobby, and anyone in between. I offer a FREE TWO WEEK TRIAL/AUDITION PERIOD. This allows students and families to see how things work here, see if they like it and if they want to sign up. It also allows me to evaluate the student over the course of a few lessons so that I can determine if the student will be a good fit in the studio, and so I can recommend the best course of study.
