We exist to improve student learning and to make our STEM learning environments as equitable as possible.

We are a group of interdisciplinary faculty from higher ed institutions across the US, who teach and do research in the STEM fields. ADC | Arab and Muslim Ban Toolkit 01/29/2017

what we and students need to know

ADC | Arab and Muslim Ban Toolkit President Donald Trump signed Executive Order (EO) Protection of the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States, which essentially implements an Arab and Muslim ban. The EO also puts an immediate ban on refugees entering the United States.

The Petition (EO) proposing a 90-day suspension of visas and other immigration benefits to all nationals of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia. The unrealistic conditions required for discontinuing the suspension make it very likely that this EO will turn into a permanent ban. We, the undersigne...

Leverage Points: Places to Intervene in a System - The Donella Meadows Institute 12/01/2016

Donella Meadows's book 'Thinking in Systems' describes effective ways in which we can change a system. Her chapter "Leverage Points: Places to Intervene in a System" is excellent; her thoughts are helping our Equity Community of Practice think about how we can influence change within the systems where we live and work. Highly recommended. Here is a link to "Leverage Points" chapter at the Meadows website:

This idea is not unique to sys...

Purdue University Faculty and Staff Letter in Support of Students, November 2016 11/21/2016

"We explicitly stand against racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and xenophobia. We strongly support individuals vulnerable because of their statuses in our society, including but not limited to, Muslims, women, LGBTQ+, international, immigrants, non-citizen, students with disabilities, and all people of color.
We further acknowledge that experiences of exclusion and marginalization were not created by this recent presidential election, but rather have only heightened in wake of the election of a president-elect who launched a campaign based on anti-immigrant, racist, and xenophobic sentiment. This hateful conduct counters who we should be as an inclusive campus community. "

Purdue University Faculty and Staff Letter in Support of Students, November 2016 We, a concerned collective of faculty and staff at Purdue University, write in strong support of our students. On college campuses across the nation, there have been numerous reported incidents of hate, bias, and bigotry across the nation in the wake of 2016 presidential election. We join the chorus...
