Our National Hispanic Heritage Month RSO Spotlight continues with Jardín Semillas, one of Purdue’s newest registered student organizations!

Established in 2025, Jardín Semillas engages Purdue students through gardening and its connections to Latino heritage and culture. Based at the Latino Cultural Center, the organization creates opportunities for students to learn, build community, and spend time together through a shared interest in gardening.

You can support Jardín Semillas TODAY through their fundraiser at Tsaocaa Purdue! Stop in, make a purchase, and use promo code JS917. A portion of the proceeds will go to support the club and its activities.

Our National Hispanic Heritage Month RSO Spotlight continues with Baile Folklorico Club at Purdue!

Founded in 2023, Baile Folklorico Club brings people together to celebrate and learn about different cultures through traditional Latin American dances and music.

The organization performs throughout Purdue and the Greater Lafayette community, including at National Hispanic Heritage Month events, Día de Mu***os, the Tippecanoe Latino Festival, and its own fall showcase.

Throughout National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Purdue Latino Cultural Center is highlighting registered student organizations that are creating community, celebrating culture, and making an impact at Purdue.

We’re kicking off our RSO Spotlight with the Latinx Student Union (LSU)!

Founded in 2003, LSU promotes unity within Purdue’s Latinx community and provides opportunities for students to connect through social, academic, and civic engagement. From their Soccer Social and Friendsgiving to 12 Corazones and Carne Asada, LSU offers plenty of ways for students to meet one another and get involved.

National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) honors the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in Hispanic, Latinx and Latin American communities.

1968: President Lyndon Johnson created a single week for the observance.
1988: President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to cover a full 30-day period.
1988: Congress enacted the month-long celebration into law on August 17th, 1988.

During this month, the Latino Cultural Center will highlight
registered student organizations.

Expectations as a Peer Mentor:
Hold weekly check-in meetings with assigned mentees
Perform responsibilities for both Fall & Spring semester of the program
Mentors are NOT required to take part of workshops but are still welcome to attend
Mentors are expected to dedicate 2 hours per week for 10 weeks

Requirements:
Purdue University Undergraduate Student
Must be 3rd year or above
GPA 2.75 or above

Applications are due Sunday September 20th, 2026 at 11:59PM
