IU placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively.

The Butler Leadership in Action Award will recognize Purdue faculty, staff and students who have shown exemplary leadership within their respective areas of expertise. Whether it is through excellence in a particular field or demonstrable commitment to the success and development of other leaders, this award will acknowledge honorees’ accomplishments and professional contributions.
There are three categories of awards, honoring a faculty member, a staff member, and a student, each of whom must show leadership with direct effect on their work and community environments.
To be eligible for the Butler Leadership in Action Award, the individual must demonstrate the following:
* Overarching commitment to launching tomorrow’s leaders by showing ongoing dedication to mentoring students, colleagues and/or peers to pursue excellence and fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and creativity that contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of their peers.
* Favorable representation of their department and the University, both on and off campus.
* Skillful motivation, organization, dedication and/or influence within their area of research, discipline or other work.
* Ongoing commitment to engagement at the local, state, national and/or global level.
* Active service to the campus community as well as national service to academic and/or professional organizations.
Nominations may be self-made or submitted on the nominee’s behalf. Nominations must include a cover letter of no more than two pages that cites the nominee’s strengths, years of services and examples of commitment to leadership.
Two letters of support will be accepted. A CV/resume of nominee should be included as well.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Nov. 3. Winners will be recognized at a reception 10-11:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 at Purdue Memorial Union's West Faculty Lounge.

Fall 2017 Schurz Innovation Challenge at Purdue
The Purdue Foundry is hosting the eighth Schurz Communications Innovation Challenge at Purdue University
The challenge is a chance for Purdue University students to test their creativity and skills in the area of online and mobile media technology.
2017 Important Dates:
-Deadline to enter: November 22
-Event: December 7
Teams are encouraged to meet with competition mentor (contact the foundry at [email protected])
Any Purdue student can participate, or form a team that includes a Purdue student, who would like to:
-Work in online media technology
-Has an innovative idea in the area of media technology
-Would like to work on developing and creating a prototype for their idea with the guidance of an experienced mentor
-Of course, win prize money
Rules and Guidelines:
-Any Purdue student, graduate and undergraduate (each person can only be on one team)
-No limit to number of team members
-Teams may seek assistance from Schurz, Purdue Foundry, or any other university or external resource
-Purdue Foundry will provide teams with guidance on a scheduled basis and as needed
-The idea and work must be your own
-You will maintain ownership of your innovation
1st Place - $5,000
2nd Place - $3,500
3rd Place - $1,500
Crowd Favorite - $500 (voted for by the crowd)

The Leadership Communication Studio (LCS) has created the Wisdom from Failure Essay Competition for Purdue University Undergraduate Students.
Award money will be awarded to the winning participants.
Each participant will have the opportunity to write an account of a failure he/she has experienced in the past.
The story must focus on a new experience, a time he/she stepped out of their comfort zone, a class experience, a leadership experience, etc.
The participants will explain why their experience was such a stretch for them, what the failure was that resulted, and what they learned from the experience that would be of interest to others.
·Prizes for the Wisdom from Failure Competition are $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place.
·Dean David Hummels will write a letter of recommendation for the first-place award winner.
·The Wisdom from Failure Competition is an excellent opportunity to interact with the broad Krannert community.

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), in partnership with the colleges, announces a research scholarship program to recognize undergraduate student engagement in original research, scholarship, or creative work under the guidance of a Purdue faculty or approved research mentor. The scholarship is in the amount of $500 for the Spring 2018
semester and is non-renewable.
