Joint Mathematics Colloquium and Partial Differential Equations Seminar features Distinguished Science Alumnus Luca Capogna. He will describe some mathematical models for various phenomena (parallel parking, motion of robot arms, unicycles, visual illusions, ...) that can be expressed in terms of certain non-Euclidean geometries structures called sub-Riemannian geometries. The talk is accessible to advanced undergraduate and to graduate students. Tea and cookies at 3pm in Math Library before the seminar.
