Our faculty hold research specializations across contemporary analytic philosophy, history of philosophy, and continental European philosophy. Our curriculum provides opportunities to study a wide range of philosophical issues from myriad traditions, methodologies, and perspectives. Students engage important portions of their intellectual heritage through the writings of influential philosophers of the past and present, and acquire a sense of the influence of these figures on the broader society and culture. For Undergraduate students, the department offers a University Honors Program, study abroad opportunities, an Undergraduate Philosophy Society, and access to various scholarships. Graduate students acquire a solid grounding in four traditional areas of philosophy -- the history of philosophy, metaphysics and epistemology, value theory, and logic, language and science -- before developing their own specialized research programs. All participants in our community are welcome and encouraged to attend our Colloquium series, held several times per semester on Friday afternoons. We established a Climate and Diversity initiative within the department, which brings in various speakers on a range of topics. We are also part of the new interdisciplinary Human Rights Program, which currently offers an undergraduate minor and will soon offer a graduate concentration.
