Prof. Chris Goldenstein's group is currently working on the Light Speed Grand Project Challenge with Sandia National Labs. This multi-university effort seeks to improve prediction & interpretation of optical radiation emanating from post-detonation fireballs. In this project, the Goldenstein Group has developed and deployed mid-infrared laser-absorption-spectroscopy diagnostics that measure gas temperature, pressure, CO, CO2 and H2O at 1 MHz in post-detonation fireballs of energetic materials. To date, their experimental results have been used to evaluate and improve predictive models for fireball radiation.

PERC director Steve Beaudoin participated on the panel, “Shoring Up Workforce Gaps: Issues & Strategies Across Industries” at the Defense Production Act Title III C4 Collaboration Event. This event aimed to identify opportunities to aggregate demand for critical chemicals from multiple U.S. markets, as well as share best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness in munitions .

Approximately, 150 representatives from government, industry, and academia were in attendance.
