Last Spring, NRES senior Owen Dwyer spent a semester studying abroad at University College Dublin in Ireland 🇮🇪

“I was a little worried I’d miss Purdue since I was gone the whole semester, but looking back, studying abroad ended up being my favorite semester. I got to see firsthand how Ireland and the EU approach environmental issues differently than the US. On weekends I traveled around Ireland and Europe, and by the end I’d visited 9 different countries! My favorite part was meeting people from all over the world, my friend group included people from France, Canada, Dubai, and Australia. Skiing in the Swiss Alps was also a bucket list moment. I’d 100% recommend studying abroad to anyone who has the chance.”

This summer, Lauren Kudla, a junior in NRES, worked as a Watershed Protection Intern for the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council in Petoskey, Michigan!

“I assisted with various projects, including stream/lake monitoring, road-stream crossing assessments, aquatic plant surveys, youth education events, macroinvertebrate ID, garden restoration, and GIS usage. My favorite project was conducting a shoreline survey of Walloon Lake. Along with other interns, we surveyed 14 miles of inland lake shoreline by kayak, measuring erosion, green belts, algae growth, and more through Field Maps.”
