The ‘Mythical Beasts of Germany’, inspired by Brothers Grimm's fairy tales and local legends.

Creatures and monsters from German folklore and mythology. Including the Aufhocker - a shapeshifter, the Wolf of Ansbach - a man eating wolf, Fáfnir - a greedy dwarf who killed his father for gold and shapeshifted into a dragon, and the Krampus - a half-goat, half-demon monster who, among other things, used to terrify misbehaving children at Christmas.

And German mythical creatures share a lot with the surrounding countries, so there are creatures from Austria, Italy and France, as well as from Nordic and Slavic mythology. A mixture of werewolves, dragons, mermaids, mountain spirits and kobolds.

Shear mania! Shoppers at a German discounter had quite the shock on Monday morning when a flock of 50 sheep stormed a rural supermarket after breaking away from their herd.

The brazen sheep spent around 20 minutes milling mostly around the checkout area of the Penny supermarket in Burgsinn, Baa-varia, before ewe-turning and seeing themselves out.

The flock's shepherd, Dieter Michler, had been leading his 500-strong herd along a path between the industrial area and a nearby river when the breakaway group made their baa-zaar detour.

Penny said the supermarket had been thoroughly cleaned after the sheep had hoofed it and that all unpackaged produce had been carefully checked.

The sheep and their owner won't be fleeced: the discounter does not plan to bill the shepherd for any costs incurred from the sheep's shopping spree.

The traffic jams were not just a single event, they continued for weeks as East Germans toured West Berlin, and West Berliners visited relations and friends in the GDR they had not been able to see for decades.
