🚀 **RIMRA Launch This Saturday at URI — Weather Looking Great!** 🚀

The **Rhode Island Model Rocket Association (RIMRA)** is planning to launch this **Saturday, August 15, 2026**, at **URI Peckham Farm in West Kingston**, and the weather forecast is currently looking very promising!

We’re excited to once again collaborate with the **University of Rhode Island** for a day of model rocketry, STEM, and family fun.

📅 **Saturday, August 15, 2026**
📍 **URI Peckham Farm – West Kingston, RI**
⏰ **8:30 AM – approximately 3:00 PM**
🌧️ **Rain Date:** Sunday, August 16

**8:30 AM:** Field and range setup — volunteers are always appreciated!
**Approximately 9:30–10:00 AM:** Launch operations begin once the range is ready.
**Through approximately 3:00 PM:** Continuous flying — and help breaking down the range afterward is always appreciated!

Low-, mid-, and high-power rockets are welcome in accordance with RIMRA and NAR launch requirements.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 **Spectators are always welcome!** Bring your family and friends and come see rocketry and STEM in action.

⚠️ **IMPORTANT:** Although the forecast is currently looking great, the launch remains dependent on weather, wind, fire risk, and field conditions.

**Please check this page or RIMRA.org after 6:00 PM Friday evening for the final launch status before traveling to the field.**

WPRI 12 has invited RIMRA members and spectators to submit photos and videos from Saturday’s launch for possible use in their local news coverage.

Please capture some of the action throughout the day—including launches, recoveries, rockets on display, and activities at the field—and submit your best photos or video clips at:

🚀 T-Minus 3 Days to the RIMRA Launch!

The weather is looking good, and all systems appear to be GO for this Saturday, July 25!

Join the Rhode Island Model Rocket Association, in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island, for a full day of model and high-power rocketry, hands-on learning, and STEM in action.

📅 Saturday, July 25
⏰ 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

🙋 Volunteers are needed! RIMRA launches depend on volunteers to help with setup, registration, range operations, safety, rocket recovery, and cleanup. Even an hour or two makes a difference.

🕷️ Spidey is scheduled to take to the skies as one of Saturday’s featured flights!

Spidey is a 10-foot-long, 4-inch-diameter carbon-fiber rocket featuring:

• Dual-deployment parachute recovery
• Two independent altimeters for redundancy
• A custom 78-inch Spidey main parachute
• A one-foot-tall Spider-Man figurine deployed on his own parachute
• GPS-based SoloShot video tracking
• A rear-mounted Mobius camera to record the ascent
• A GoPro positioned to capture liftoff
• A 1080p HD camera mounted on Spider-Man’s backpack to record his descent

With multiple deployment, recovery, tracking, and video systems working together, the flight will be an ambitious demonstration of aerodynamics, electronics, mechanical engineering, telemetry, and experimentation.

There are a lot of moving parts, so we are hoping for a safe and successful flight—and some spectacular video!

Due to forecasted rain and thunderstorms for both Saturday and Sunday, the RIMRA launch scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

The Rhode Island Model Rocket Association is gearing up for our next launch this **Saturday, June 20th** and we’re excited to welcome flyers, families, and spectators for another incredible day of rocketry.

We’re proud to host these launches **in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island**, supporting STEM education, aerospace learning, and hands-on experiences for the community.

🌬 **Wind Advisory**
Forecasts are currently calling for relatively strong winds. Flyers attempting **high-altitude flights** are strongly encouraged to use a **chute release or similar recovery management system** to reduce drift.

RIMRA has a **club chute release available to borrow** for members (borrower agreement required).

🚀 **Certification Flights Welcome**
Planning an **Level 1 or Level 2 certification flight**? Be sure to bring:

• Certification paperwork
• Rocket ready for inspection
• Motor selection finalized
• OpenRocket or RockSim simulation (recommended)

🚀 Student Volunteers Needed – Earn Community Service Hours!

The Rhode Island Model Rocket Association (RIMRA) is looking for high school students (Juniors & Seniors) to volunteer at our upcoming rocket launch events!

If you’re interested in STEM, aerospace, or hands-on experiences, this is a great opportunity to be part of something exciting while earning verified community service hours.

🛠️ What you’ll do:
Help with event setup, check-in, and general launch support (no experience needed—we’ll guide you!)

📍 Where: URI Peckham Farm (West Kingston, RI)
🕒 When: Saturdays, 8:30 AM – ~3:00 PM (flexible shifts available)
