Heartland Elementary

STARTING MONDAY, JUNE 9: Kids can get free hot meals this summer as part of the USDA's Summer Food Service Program at qualifying Jordan School District Schools. All students 18 years old and younger are welcome to enjoy free breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, from June 9 to August 1, excluding June 16, July 4, 24, and 25.

The free meals will be available at five locations:
• Majestic Elementary School, 7430 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan
• Heartland Elementary School, 1451 West 7000 South, West Jordan
• Westvale Elementary School, 2300 West Gardner Lane, West Jordan
• Columbia Elementary School, 3503 West 7800 South, West Jordan
• Oquirrh Elementary School, 7165 Paddington Road, West Jordan

Breakfast service is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Lunch service is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Awards Ceremony for 1st-5th grades

Today is a very exciting day at Heartland. I am pleased to announce that they will begin construction on a walking bridge from the north side of 70th south across the street to our very own field. This project has been talked about for many years before I came. It has been something that the school community council and I have worked closely on with the mayor and city council for the last seven years. The attached flyer contains some details, I have a meeting next week and will obtain more details and share them again here and in a parent Square. Thank you, West Jordan City for prioritizing student and community walking and biking safety. 

Huge shoutout to the students at JAT-C South for designing, building, pouring the concrete and presenting at our amazing assembly today for our new Buddy Bench. Thank you for all of your hard work to support students making new friends and ensuring that everyone feels like they belong at Heartland.

Battle of the Books 2025 has begun!!! The first day of battles was Wednesday—3 rounds for each team (18 teams) to determine ranking for tomorrow’s elimination battles, leading up to our final battle Friday! This year we have over 70 students participating, more than 20 volunteers helping, amazing support from our Heartland Team, and hundreds of books read, and minds open!! Friday the final battle featured the Sigmas vs the Death Readers!!

Final Battle was indeed epic!! Well done both teams! Death Readers won! But both teams get to now prepare to battle against the top 2 teams from another school, after spring break!

Battles vs Westvale (top 2 teams) were today! Trophies have been returned to Heartland! Amazing efforts! Cool emotions! Everyone wins!! Great job to all involved!

Last Friday we celebrated Read Across America Day, with a love of Dr. Seuss, an annual day of welcoming community leaders and readers into our school and enjoying the witty words of Dr. Seuss. Each class had 3 or more readers and 3 or more books read in a delightful hour of sharing and caring. Here are just a few of these wonderful moments! Thanks to all who came and for each amazing student and teacher and staff member at Heartland!
