Due to the weather, this year’s Homecoming Parade has been canceled. While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to gather for the parade, we still want to take the opportunity to recognize and honor this year’s Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal, Glenn Wing.
Glenn is a graduate of Ishpeming High School and Northern Michigan University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After spending 30 years working for CCI, Glenn retired in 2002.
Glenn and his wife, Kim, have four children and three stepchildren. Together, they also provided treatment foster care for teen girls for 18 years.
Since 2016, Glenn has served as a permanent substitute teacher in the NICE School District, typically three days a week. During that time, he has watched generations of students grow up, and they have come to know and appreciate him in return. Students consistently describe Glenn as a “great guy” and “one of the best substitutes!”
Glenn’s dedication to the community extends far beyond the classroom. He is a former NICE School Board member and Board President and has served on numerous boards and committees, including Pathways Community Mental Health, NorthCare Network, the Michigan Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board, and the Michigan Foster Care Advisory Committee.
He has also served as Ely Township Clerk and as Project Manager for the Barnes-Hecker Memorial Park project, which is nearing completion and is truly beautiful. If you haven't had a chance to visit, be sure to check it out!
Throughout his life, Glenn has dedicated himself to supporting children and families, strengthening our communities, and serving others.
