After 16 years of teaching, there are a few things I’ve noticed that can really hold people back in their practice. And most of them have nothing to do with strength, flexibility, or how long you’ve been doing Pilates.
Sometimes it’s the little things.
Paying attention instead of going on autopilot. Remembering a correction from last week. Learning to move efficiently between exercises. Exploring the apparatus you tend to avoid. And understanding that the advanced work isn’t going anywhere.
None of this is about being perfect. That’s why we practice.
But Pilates is a system, and the more you engage with it, the more it has to offer.
As teachers, we’re here to guide you, challenge you, and help you grow. But some of that work has to come from you.
And yes, every day is not Cadillac day. 😉
**Stop just taking Pilates. Start practicing it.**
Teachers, what would you add to this list? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
