We love color, fashion and exciting changes in design industries at Designer Camp, so the recent showcasing of Sabato de Sarno’s first Gucci collection as their new designer has captured our attention! De Sarno debuted a color dubbed “Gucci Rosso” and used this dark, blood red heavily on the Spring/Summer ’24 catwalk in Milan this past week. Above the buzz around his departure from Gucci’s recent whimsical maximalism, we are watching this change with excitement and hope de Sarno can introduce is to new and reimagined things, just like ‘Gucci Rosso’.
Designer Camp

Draping with a view- that's pretty Designer Camp of us. And even better, it's pink organza 🎀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the technicalities of garment making are not usually a focus during camp, we love to play with one important step of the process - draping! Campers get a feel for what it's like to design a rough draft of something, and in turn see their creativity take shape. The time we dedicate to this activity almost always turns into the loudest, messiest, and most fun part of the day! Sometimes we even do it 2x in one day ;)

For a dose of Monday motivation, we're reminded of 's story and how she started her jewelry line that is now worn by all your favorite celebs. Melinda started small, making her very first sales in Starbucks around LA, and continued on to build a jewelry empire.

We were honored to host "Hollywood's Bling Queen" this summer and witness what hard work + creativity can do!

We were all smiles in Studio Van den Akker this summer! The energy is contagious when galleries are so excited to welcome us in. The precision and collaboration that goes into creating their made-to-order furniture, lighting, and architectural products was fascinating to learn about, and we are so thankful to the team for allowing us to be inspired in their space. Thx again !

Thank you SeaVees for giving us a a tour of your lovely Newport location and letting campers gather brand inspo for their final Design 101 project. We loved learning the history of "The original once-forgotten sneaker brand".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you didn't know, SeaVees was originally founded by BF Goodrich in the 60's and revolutionized footwear and sneakers as we know them today. Long story short, they fell out of production in the 70's but were brought back to life in 2008 after Steven Tiller, the CEO, had discovered an old pair abroad.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, the shoes are consciously crafted in small batches to control quality and consistency using a time-honored footwear construction called vulcanization. They've also incorporated recycled materials into every shoe they make!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We 💖 a good story just as much as we love sustainable design, so SeaVees is an inspiration in more ways than one.

We loved wandering around the PDC and shooting alongside you !

This summer, we were thrilled to have Alex Shibutani join us again and share his photography expertise. Alex travels a TON, and always has a camera in hand. His work is lovely and inspired us to look more closely at the world around us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alex is a two-time Olympic medalist, writer, producer, photographer, speaker, consultant, Sports Envoy for the U.S. State Department, and member of the LA28 Athletes’ Commission.
In 2018, he and his sister, Maia Shibutani, made Olympic history by becoming the first ice dancers of Asian descent and first team of color to medal at the Winter Olympic Games. They are also the first sibling duo to win two Olympic medals in Ice Dance. Earlier this year, they were inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Off the ice, they have written three books together and Alex recently debuted his fine art photography at the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles in May.

At the end of Photography Week, campers matted the three photos they chose to print from their week of shooting. Here, they are holding their prints up to the light to make sure everything is perfect for presentation!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks to for providing world-class gallery quality paper so that campers can see their own work in the same form as the work behind them there in 🖼️

Thanks to , Interior Design campers were able to use their lovely trays to create their own flatlays- aka textile and material mood boards! taught them the "Anatomy of a Flatlay" and they played around with all sorts of colors and patterns to create a vision for their interior projects.
