Dirt Learning

Dirt Learning We Play, We Explore, We Discover, We Learn. We Help Children Grow. We help children to grow!

Established in 2003 I have been helping children learn and grow through hands-on learning experiences and exploring in nature. Because of research base information I choose to teach combined age classes and follow children's interests and improve above current skill level.

Feelings are meant to be felt, not fixed. 💛

Did you know that the physical sensation of an emotion can move through the body surprisingly quickly when we allow ourselves to experience it—often around 90 seconds before our thoughts begin adding more to the story?

That’s such an important reminder for us as parents.

When our child is sad, angry, frustrated, disappointed, or scared, our instinct is often to jump in:
“Don’t cry.”
“You’re okay.”
“It’s not a big deal.”
“Calm down.”
Or we try to distract, fix, avoid, or control the feeling.

But what if instead, we gave them space to feel their feelings?

We can stay close. We can keep them safe. We can acknowledge what’s happening without trying to make it disappear.

“You’re really disappointed.”
“That was hard.”
“I’m right here.”

Our children don’t need us to rescue them from every uncomfortable emotion. They need opportunities to experience emotions and discover: I can feel this. I can move through it. I can be okay on the other side.

That’s how we build emotional resilience—not by avoiding hard feelings, but by helping children learn that all feelings are safe to feel. 🌿

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do as parents is simply give the feeling a little room.

🍃 Calling all educators, caregivers, and anyone passionate about children.

As we head back into a new school year, let’s rethink what learning can look like.

Join us for a day of hands-on, outdoor learning as we explore the power of play, nature, and child-led education. Together with Kristen Day, we’ll share ideas, collaborate, and experience firsthand why play is one of the greatest tools for learning.

This isn’t another sit-and-listen training. It’s a day to connect, explore, and leave inspired.

We’d love to have you join us at Dirt Learning!

Sometimes the smallest circles create the biggest impact. 💛

Our first Nurture & Navigate Parent Circle was small, which meant one parent received personalized support, had space to ask every question on her heart, and left feeling encouraged and seen.

Whether it’s one parent or twenty, my goal is the same—to create a safe place where parents feel supported, understood, and equipped with practical tools they can take home.

I’m already looking forward to our next Parent Circle on August 27th. If you’ve been thinking about joining, I’d love to have you there.
