Our Elevation Center has launched a new Executive-in-Residence (EIR) program, which is designed to connect accomplished business leaders with students, faculty, and industry partners while strengthening the bridge between higher education and the workforce. The initial group includes seven senior executives.

"The Executive in Residence program exemplifies The Elevation Center's commitment to connecting students with experienced industry leaders who have built companies, launched products, transformed organizations, and led teams through growth and change," said Paul Lavoie, vice president of corporate partnerships and innovation and executive director of The Elevation Center. "Our students gain access to the kind of mentorship, professional guidance, and industry relationships that accelerate career readiness and help them become better than ready for the future of work."

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Meet Courtney Del Vecchio ’16

What started as a vision for building community through movement has grown into one of Connecticut’s expanding fitness brands. Courtney Del Vecchio, a 2016 journalism graduate of the University of New Haven, founded Sweatfluence in 2017 in Old Saybrook. Since then, the business has expanded to New Haven and is now opening its first franchise location in Blue Back Square, marking an exciting new chapter in the company's growth.

By empowering instructors, building meaningful relationships, and creating welcoming fitness communities, Courtney has transformed Sweatfluence into more than a workout studio, it's a place where people connect, grow, and thrive.

Congratulations to Courtney on this incredible milestone, and we can't wait to see what's next Sweatfluence!

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Meet Abdul Hadi ’25 (M.S. Chemical Engineering)

Meet Abdul Hadi Ali Khan, a Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of New Haven, earned 9 awards in two years of his master’s program while completing a corrosion engineering thesis.

His achievements span Mechanical Engineering (Bearing Design), Model United Nations (contributing to UNH’s 3 awards), and case competitions, where he won 1st place two years in a row.

Earned Best Graduate Student award, along with Most Innovative Researcher Award in 2025, a Hult Prize 2nd Runner-Up, and as an international student, Abdul also gives back through community service at a Connecticut refugee center.

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Ceyda Mumcu ’07 M.S. ✨

From growing up in Turkey and playing on the Turkish National Team to earning her master’s in sport management at UNewHaven, Dr. Ceyda Mumcu has built an inspiring global journey.

After completing her Ph.D., she returned “home” to the University, now serving as John R. Gehring Professor and chair of Sport, Tourism & Hospitality Management.

She’s passionate about giving students real-world experience from day one, including new opportunities through the Pompea College of Business’s partnership with the New York Mets.

Congratulations and thank you to alumnus Douglas D. Schumann '69 for his extraordinary $10 million gift to support the launch of University of New Haven – Riyadh. His generosity will help expand access to a University of New Haven education on a global scale while honoring the legacy of his parents, Dorothy "Dot" and Charles "Chick" Schumann.

This transformational investment reflects the power of our alumni community to make a lasting impact around the world. We are incredibly grateful for Doug's vision, leadership, and commitment to future generations of Chargers.

We have received a $10 million philanthropic gift from alumnus Douglas D. Schumann '69 to support the launch of University of New Haven – Riyadh, the first independently licensed U.S. international branch campus in Saudi Arabia that will open this fall with our College of Business and Digital Innovation in Misk City, the not-for-profit innovation district in the heart of Riyadh.

“This gift is, above all, a tribute to my parents, Dorthy Dunlop [Dot] Schumann and Charles Frederick [Chick] Schumann,” said Douglas Schumann. “They believed that opportunity should never be limited by where a person happens to be born, and that education is the surest way to open doors. Helping to launch a college that will do exactly that, for students half a world away, honors their legacy in the truest sense. Their generosity and their faith in others are the reason this gift exists, and I am proud to carry it forward in their name.”

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Meet David Hoffman ’80

A lifelong advocate for ethical leadership in healthcare, David Hoffman continues to make an impact through research, public policy, and education. A 1980 graduate of the University of New Haven, Hoffman recently published "Anticipating Challenging Changes: Principles Must Be the Backbone of Our Approach" in the Annals of Bioethics and Clinical Applications, encouraging healthcare leaders to remain grounded in ethical principles while navigating today's complex and rapidly changing medical landscape.

Through his proven commitment to improving healthcare, David Hoffman exemplifies how Charger alumni continue to make a meaningful difference in communities across the nation.
