As a new academic year ramps up at the University of New Haven, Charger Blogger Shana-Kay Hyde ’27 takes a moment to reflect on the past, set new goals, reconnect with the Charger community, and make the most of the opportunities ahead.

"I hope we can take a moment to appreciate the opportunity we all have to be here," she wrote. "The summer break may have given us the time to rest, but now it is time to reconnect, learn something new, get involved, and make the most of our time here."

The theme of this year's Convocation was, "You Belong, You Matter, You Can Thrive."

"College will challenge you; we will challenge you," said Dean of Students Ophelie Rowe-Allen, Ph.D. "But it will also shape you, strengthen you, and open doors that you may not have imagined. With support, effort, and connection, you will grow here and become your very best self."

Keynote speaker Sarah Shultz, Ph.D., dean of our School of Health Sciences, told our newest Chargers, "You are amazing not for what you achieve or do. You are amazing for who you are trying to become."

The initial group includes seven senior executives.

"The Executive in Residence program exemplifies The Elevation Center's commitment to connecting students with experienced industry leaders who have built companies, launched products, transformed organizations, and led teams through growth and change," said Paul Lavoie, vice president of corporate partnerships and innovation and executive director of The Elevation Center. "Our students gain access to the kind of mentorship, professional guidance, and industry relationships that accelerate career readiness and help them become better than ready for the future of work."
