I’m back from our 2 week trip with a lot of fabric to show for it!
🏴Our first week was to visit my brother and his family in Scotland. He moved with his wife and two daughters to be closer to her family in SW Scotland (and then she had another little one a few weeks before we arrived). The weather was chilly and the views incredible!
We spent one day in Edinburgh and I was so excited to visit the Tartan Weaving Will. I visited once before, while in college, and was completely enchanted watching the looms at work. Sadly there wasn’t a loom to be found, but I did find my way to the second floor where they sold tartan by the bolt. While chatting with the gentleman cutting my fabric, I learned the looms there closed down after COVID and moved to another location in Scotland. That was disappointing, but I’m sure a much more productive move! The second pic is the view from their backyard 😍
🏴 From there we headed to London for a few days and I dragged my son over to Liberty of London. Full disclosure, I’ve never been a huge Liberty fan, but this building was AMAZING! Not only did they have bolts upon bolts of fabric, but tons of artisan gifts, handcarved banksters, and fabulous displays. I picked up a few little sample packs and a half yard of lawn there.
🇫🇷Our last stop was Paris. It was so. very. hot. I wasn’t sure what fabric I was going to collect, and almost didn’t get anything, but on our last day we headed out of town to Chartres. I wanted to make sure my family saw a little more of France than just Paris and remembered being in awe of the cathedral when I visited in high school. While there, I popped into a little shop that sold all items made in France. The enthusiastic shop owner spoke zero English and I spoke only a little more French. I walked out with 3 napkins made in the Basque region that are destined for pillows and pouches! Not going to lie, I was pleased my high school French studies prepared me enough to talk fabric with the owner for a little bit (my kids were more impressed when I was able to ask where the bathrooms were 😂). Also, that color palette in the last photo from Chartres is perfection! 🩷
