Your teen isn’t the only one applying to college…

Parents can burn out during college apps too.

Their stress can become YOUR stress. And vice versa.

Deadlines. Essays. Emails. Decisions.

You may start carrying their stress right along with them.

Pause. Breathe. Reset.

Your teen needs your calm more than they need you to do it all.

Take care of YOU, too.

Take breaks. Sleep. Move your body. Talk to someone. And give yourself permission to step away.

You can support your teen without carrying the whole process.

Save this for the stressful days—and send it to a parent who needs to hear it.

I worked with a student who had an incredible list of achievements.

Robotics. Debate. Honor roll. All of it.

But her essay draft read like a resume. Not like her.

So we slowed down.

And she started writing about her grandmother's kitchen instead. About making hand-made pasta. About patience.

That was the essay that showed something about her that couldn't be explained in other parts of the application.

Your child's essay isn't about proving they're impressive.

It's about letting them sound like themselves.

So if this season feels heavy right now, take a breath.

Your teen doesn't need a perfect essay. They need permission to be honest.

I write about this in my newsletter to help this process feel less overwhelming for families. Link's in my bio.

If you're searching for a book on the college process that prioritizes your relationship with your teen, I'd like to introduce you to "The Compassionate College Process."

Inside, it's broken into three parts.

First, the admissions process itself. How colleges actually evaluate applications, and how to build a list around fit instead of rankings.

Second, the impact on your teen. What the stress is actually doing to them, and how to help them cope with it.

Third, and this is the part most books skip: the role you play as the parent. The mistakes we don't realize we're making, and the small shifts that turn pressure into support.

It walks you through the whole process while keeping the thing that matters most front and center: your relationship with your teen.

Same information. Completely different feeling on the receiving end.

The first version puts you in charge. The second one puts your teen in the driver's seat, with you right beside them.

Small swap. Big difference in how it lands.

Save this so you have it on hand next time a "should" is about to slip out.

Your family deserves to get through this process intact and thriving. The "Compassionate College Process" shows you how. Get your copy at link in bio.

The common app is open and with that often comes lots of angst.

I promise you can do this. I tell my students it isn't rocket science.

Truly, it isn't as complicated as it's made out to be.

It takes time and patience.

One day at a time, one breath at a time.

Block out time every couple of days to plug away at it.

For a full breakdown of the common app, check out my newsletter. Link in bio.
