Many AFSO students already have a BA. Fereshtah is one of them. Having earned an undergraduate law degree in Afghanistan, Fareshta is now completing her Master’s in Law and Human Rights at Universitas Islam in Indonesia. She credits AFSO with transforming her future. Working with AFSO advisors in 2024, she attained one of only 12 scholarships from the Raoul Wallenberg Institute . Her remarkable educational opportunity has led her to advocate for Afghan women facing increasing barriers to opportunities like her because of dwindling scholarships and visa opportunities.She urges the international community to create accessible pathways to those who follow in her footsteps.

8 amazing students have successfully completed the College Preparation Certificate, earning High Pass grades in courses in academic writing, critical thinking, research, quantitative literacy, and TOEFL preparation. Next step: an accredited American degree. Congratulations, CPC Class of '26!

“When I look at the sky I am always fascinated by the stars.” From dreaming of becoming an astronaut when she was younger to studying computer science at Kabul university, Sabeena has always wanted a career in astronomy. Alongside her studies with AFSO, she studies in the Bard College Global Degree Program, and is preparing to study abroad at a German university in the fall. This makes her the first female member in her family to travel abroad and attend a mixed university. Sabeena knows education is the foundation of women’s independence, and is dedicated to share her knowledge, through teaching English and Python classes online to other Afghan women, whilst educating her 5 younger siblings.
