First Church Academy for Young Children

First Church Academy provides a nurturing learning environment for children ages six weeks up to kindergarten. We have been serving families since 1941.

We offer care from 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday. First Church Academy for Young Children is a program of the First Church of Christ Congregational Church serving the educational and childcare needs of young children and families.

Oh The Places They'll Go!🎉🎉
We celebrated our Pre-K 4/5 class last Friday and all their hard work so far this year! Ms. Moriah and her class performed songs and received congratulatory certificates, followed by popsicles and snacks! We are so proud of our students and are so excited to continue to watch them grow this summer.

Special thanks to Michelle Raymond for a beautiful celebration!

Butterfly day!!!!🐛🦋Our classrooms released a dozen butterflies all together today in the First Church Memorial Garden. We have loved watching and learning about our caterpillars turning into butterflies! These past few weeks have been filled with exploration, caterpillar crafts, and learning all about life cycles. Such a fun way to end a beautiful week!☀️

We are having a blast this school year! To kick off the spring season, we are learning about planets, recycling, and exploring nature. During rainy days, we are enjoying the large auditorium space; riding bikes, playing catch, using the ball pit, and playing with the parachute. All the classes had so much fun celebrating holidays from Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day to Earth Day! We look forward to watching our caterpillars turn into butterflies, working in our garden, and exploring our community by taking walks around West Hartford Center. We are making friends, growing taller, and having so much fun this year!

We’ve kicked off the 23-24 program year with so many enriching experiences- visits to our JPW library (right here in the building!), Jump Bunch and Abracadoodle days. We’ve explored our labyrinth and garden for fall leaves and changes to our plants and crops and even had a visit from West Hartford’s Engine 2 firefighters! We’ve learned about the seasons, conducted science experiments with apples and leaves, explored the properties of light, and taken care of our class pets. If you’re interested in joining us for our 24-25 program year beginning August 2024, consider registering beginning December 1st. See our website in the coming weeks for details!

Our Prek Fours did a study on Shadows in honor of Groundhog Day:
Everyone picked a classroom object and we took turns see the shadow that it cast! We got to see our own shadows too.
Later we went on a shadow search walk outside and found many different shadows around the community!
