CEC Partners with Southern Illinois Rural Schools to Increase Graduation Rates and Increase Dual Credit Opportunities Through Federal Grant

In a partnership between the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC) and Breakthrough Learning, approximately 5,000 students at 10 schools located in the southern portion of Illinois will benefit from more than $3 million in federal grant funds that will take significant steps to improve graduation rates and dual credit offerings over a three-year period. The effort in Illinois has been titled the Illinois Rural Innovative Schools Effort (IRISE).

The high schools in IRISE include:

- Christopher High School (Christopher USD 99)
- Eldorado High School (Eldorado CUSD 4)
- Frankfort Community High School (West Frankfort CUSD 168)
- Gallatin High School (Gallatin CUSD 7)

- Lawrenceville High School (Lawrenceville CUSD 20)
- Red Hill Junior/Senior High School (Red Hill CUSD 10)
- Sparta High School (Sparta CUSD 140)

I'm always excited to report on the good things happening at FCHS but highlighting academic success is something we can never do enough of. The 2015 ACT scores have recently been released for our Junior students. The average composite score in 2014 for our students was a 19.12. The average composite score in 2015 is a 20.41! That's a score increase of 1.29! Even more exciting, the mock ACT was administered to the Juniors several weeks prior to the ACT. The composite score on the mock exam was an 18.32. After weeks of test preparation, the score was raised by 2.09 points! Congratulations to the students and staff of FCHS on this achievement!!
