Hey NWA parent, what did your kid actually DO at school this week?
It’s hard to know. Often times when we ask they say things like, “I don’t remember.” Or “Same stuff as always.”

This is why we send weekly updates to parents in the form of pictures, project descriptions, or even just fun or creative moments that we witnessed. Students spend a massive portion of their time with their school community, and you have a right to know what that time looks like!✨

Curious about Arête? Come spend a day with us.

Families can schedule a Trial Day any Monday through Thursday and let their child experience Arête for themselves.

They can join classes, meet the teachers, spend time with other students, participate in Nature Studies and hands-on learning, and get a real feel for what a school day here is actually like.

Come see it. Experience it. Ask questions.

Arête Mountain Academy is built for students who learn best through movement, meaningful challenge, strong relationships, and real-world learning.

If your child has been asking for something different - or you’ve been wondering whether there’s a better fit - a Trial Day is an easy place to start.

Trial Days are available Monday-Thursday.

🥳 The Creative Studio is officially OPEN 🎨

We just received fire marshal approval for the studio, which means our students can finally begin using the space for dedicated art and creative classes!

This has been a long-awaited piece of our campus, and we’re so excited to start filling it with painting, making, building, experimenting, and all the wonderfully messy things that come with creative work.

At Arête, art isn’t an “extra.” Creative thinking is part of how students learn to problem-solve, communicate, take risks, and make meaning out of the world around them.

This is a great time to come see what Arête looks like in action!
Message us to schedule a tour 🌱

p.s. Thank you to all the studios around town who have hosted us! We appreciate your time and care, and we still plan to come visit🦋

🌿 Introducing the Arête Basecamp Team

Arête Mountain Academy is launching a new Friday wilderness and expedition training team for students who want to build real field competence.

This is not a casual outdoor activity program. Basecamp students will train as a team in practical wilderness skills, field readiness, strategy, endurance, and problem-solving. The goal is to become genuinely proficient and prepare for expedition-style and bushwhack competitions.

Training areas include:

navigation & orienteering
primitive fire
rope & knot skills
plant identification
animal tracks & sign
wilderness first aid
shelter building
primitive tools & woodcraft
archery
paddling
teamwork & communication
strategy & decision-making
endurance & field readiness
gear management
adaptability & problem-solving

Each Friday functions as a true team training day with skill drills, field application, timed challenges, mission-based scenarios, team strategy, and progressive competency goals.

The program is led by a Wilderness First Responder and EMT who is prepared to coach students at a high level in wilderness safety, field skills, emergency response, and expedition readiness.

Students will work toward proficiency across 15 Basecamp skill areas, complete field assessments, participate in mock competitions and Arête challenges, and may have opportunities to represent Arête at outside competitions when age and event requirements allow.

Basecamp is for students who want to show up, train seriously, contribute to a team, and improve.

Fridays | 9:00 AM-2:00 PM
Tuition: $300/month
Annual Gear & Competition Fee: $300

No prior wilderness experience is required - but a willingness to participate, practice, and be challenged is.

Message us for enrollment information or to reserve a spot.

FREE Teen Enrichment Club at Arête Mountain Academy

We’re opening a new Teen Enrichment Program for ages 15+ and inviting local teens to join our high school students for a little more connection, creativity, and community during the week.

The program is completely free and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00 PM.

Each week, teens will participate in rotating enrichment activities alongside our high school students. Offerings may include things like:

ukulele and guitar lessons

sewing, crochet, and fiber arts
edible plant and tea crafting
cooking and cultural studies
nature-based projects
creative workshops
practical life and outdoor skills

The goal is simple: give teens a place to try meaningful things, build new skills, and connect with peers their own age.

Students may attend one or more days per week, but consistent participation is encouraged so the group can build a strong community together.

Ages: 15+
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:00-1:00 PM

What if high school was actually preparing you for what comes after it?

Our upper-level class is intentionally small. And we’re using that small size to do something that’s very difficult to accomplish in a traditional high school: build an individual path forward for every student.

Students age 14 & up work individually with our teachers and guidance counselor to identify what they want their life after high school to look like - and then we help them build a plan to get there.

That might mean planning coursework and dual enrollment for a student headed to college. Exploring trade programs and certifications. Building a portfolio. Learning how to start a business. Finding someone already working in a field they’re curious about for meaningful internships.

They’ll still get strong academics. They’ll still hike, create, explore, serve their community, and have adventures.
But they’ll also have adults sitting across the table asking:
Who are you becoming?
What do you want to do?
And what do we need to do now to help you get there?

There are currently only 7 students in our oldest group, which means we have room to know these kids exceptionally well - and we also have room for a few more teenagers to find their place here.
