Westshire The PK-5 Westshire Elementary serves approximately 85 students from the towns of W Fairlee & Vershire Math and numeracy are of equal importance.

The PK-5 Westshire Elementary School serves approximately 111 students from the towns of West Fairlee and Vershire, and including 31 preschoolers from the entire district. Westshire serves the western portion of the Rivendell Interstate School District. Located on Route 113 in the village of West Fairlee, the school sits on 17 beautiful acres that include athletic fields, a playground, and a flow

ing stream. Once inside the seven year-old facility, it is difficult to imagine a more attractive schoolhouse. Our classrooms are large, light-filled well-appointed spaces conducive to learning. Westshire has a rigorous and relevant PK-5 continuum of academic study using a standards-based curriculum, with a major emphasis on early literacy. Our goal for students is to develop a deep sense of numbers, computational dexterity, and problem solving skills. We also want them to be able to apply what they learn and make connections to daily life and future goals. Children in each grade participate in an exciting array of inquiry-based, project-oriented social studies and science units. We have an ongoing partnership with the Montshire Museum of Science and incorporate their expertise and resources in our units of study. The most compelling aspect of Westshire is the relationships we have with our students. Each student is known not just by their immediate classroom teacher, but by all the faculty and students. Respect and acceptance are emphasized in all we do within the school, and as a result the school feels healthy and safe. We come together as a learning community regularly to celebrate one another’s accomplishments by showcasing individual work, as well as class projects. Classes take turns hosting these community meetings. It is this spirit of caring and community that make Westshire a special school that is valued by the entire community.

Calling all circus fans! Everyone is invited to a free performance by the Upper Valley Circus Collective at SME this Thursday at 12:00. The UVCC Performance Camp will treat us to a showcase of their many talents as they spend "A Day in the Forest”

Join 16 of our UVCC performers as they spend a day in the forest. Animals abound as we set up camp, try to build a fire and spend some time with nature learning to co-exist.

Good afternoon Raptor Nation!

First of all, congrats to all the spring teams on a successful season. Our majors lady raptors softball team plays in their semi-final game TOMORROW (Tuesday) night at 5:30pm at the Orford Fire Station field, so come out and support them!

As promised at our last Rec meeting, we have opened up fall soccer registration this morning! This is for all students entering their second year of Prek through rising 6th graders.

The plan is to start practices for 3-6th grade right around the time school starts, with Prek-2nd starting after labor day.

We are also asking all parents to please volunteer in some shape or form. We added a few options on the sign up link, such as helping with lining fields, equipment, uniforms, gameday snacks, etc. It takes a village to have successful programs for our kids.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions and we look forward to having strong numbers and teams in the fall.
