“Hoarding” tends to be a cruel word.
Try using the words “unique collecting” this tends to break the ice.
If helping a unique collector the number one issue is their safety.
1. Can they move around safely?
2. Rodents causing health issues?
3. Insects causing health issues?
4. Is it safe for first responders if needed?
5. Is it safe for care givers if needed?
Note: a health care worker must report home safety issues.
Try not to use this with the person you’re helping. They tend to refuse to allow health care givers into the home. And we are this to help not hurt.
6. Always remember we are here to help the unique collector. Cleaning their home without their approval is illegal and will cause extreme strain on your relationship.
We are here to help in a legal, friendly, safe manner.
