Last week, the campus community gathered on the Quad for the 10th annual Concert on the Quad, featuring the WCU Symphony Orchestra, Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band and Criterions Jazz Ensemble.

The evening featured music celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

On this day 25 years ago, many lives were lost including one of our own, Michael Robert Horrocks.

Michael was a star quarterback for the Golden Ram football team, a 1985 West Chester University graduate, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, a husband and father, and First Officer aboard United Airlines Flight 175, which was flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

The statue of Michael stands tall overlooking Tomlinson-Fillippo Field at Farrell Stadium. It honors his legacy and serves as a lasting reminder of the lives impacted on September 11, 2001.

Before each home game, Golden Ram football players touch Michael’s statue to honor his memory. As you attend a Golden Ram football game this fall, please take a moment to visit the statue, reflect on Michael’s life and his lasting legacy at West Chester University.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

WCU remembers alumnus and Golden Ram quarterback Michael Horrocks ’85, who was the co-pilot of United Airlines Flight 175 on September 11, 2001.

This week, the WCU community will come together to remember Michael and all those lost on 9/11 through a memorial ceremony, the 10th annual Concert on the Quad featuring a musical tribute by the WCU Symphony Orchestra, and a moment of silence at Saturday’s football home opener.

West Chester University (WCU) will honor the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with several events, including a tribute to alumnus and WCU football player Michael Horrocks ’85, who was the co-pilot of United Airlines Flight 175, the second aircraft to strike the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

More than 40 WCU students attended and volunteered at the inaugural Healing-Centered Engagement & Trauma-Informed Education Conference, hosted by the College of Education and Social Work. Nearly 150 attendees explored approaches that foster healing, belonging, empowerment and well-being.

WCU’s College of Education and Social Work hosted the first Healing-Centered Engagement & Trauma-Informed Education Conference in August. More than 40 WCU students had the opportunity to attend and others to volunteer.
