Sloto, Honorary Professor in Earth and Space Sciences and Curator/Director of the Geology Museum at West Chester University, on being featured in the latest edition of The Mineralogical Record following his recognition as the recipient of the 2025 Carnegie Mineralogical Award! ⛏️🏆
Presented by Carnegie Museum of Natural History, this award honors outstanding contributions to mineralogical preservation, conservation, and education.
Dr. Sloto’s decades of work have helped preserve and document mineralogical history through research, education, and stewardship of geological collections. Throughout his career, he has documented more than 1,400 mineral localities and played a significant role in revitalizing geological collections at WCU—helping connect professional geology, education, and the collecting community.
We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for Dr. Sloto’s continued impact on the Earth and Space Sciences community and beyond. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement! 👏

Congratulations to Mathew Wileyto and Frank Fish, Professor of Biology at West Chester University, on their recent publication in Integrative Organismal Biology! 🐢🌊
Their paper, “Aquatic turning performance in juvenile loggerhead and green sea turtles,” explores how juvenile sea turtles maneuver and turn while swimming, offering new insight into the biomechanics of aquatic movement and how body structure influences performance.
Using video analysis and custom modeling techniques, the study examined turning behavior in loggerhead and green sea turtles, contributing valuable research to the fields of biology, biomechanics, and marine science.

Congratulations to Emily Schnarr, Caroline Guzi, and Eleanor D. Brown on their recent publication in Early Education and Development! 📚
Their article, “Parent-reported daily poverty-related stress relates to preschoolers' emotion regulation,” explores how daily poverty-related stress impacts emotional development in preschool-aged children attending Head Start programs. Their findings highlight the importance of policies and support systems that help reduce stress for families and promote healthy child development.
This impactful research reflects the important work being done within the Psychology program at West Chester University and contributes valuable insight into early childhood development and family well-being.

On April 29, undergraduate and graduate students from across the College of Sciences & Mathematics presented their research to faculty, peers, alumni, and community members in the Sykes Student Union Ballrooms. From innovative ideas to impactful findings, the session showcased the passion, creativity, and hard work of our student researchers.
