Join Dr. Peter Loedel and Dr. Travis Blemings for this immersive 7-week course (Wednesdays, 4:25–7:15 PM) to explore the critical security challenges facing contemporary Europe. You will dive deep into:
US-EU Security Cooperation
Russia's Security Challenge
NATO & the European Parliament

🤖 Fall 2026 Machine Learning & Data Science Workshop Series

Join the Women in Computer Science Club and Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science Club for a free, three-part workshop series! Open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff interested in building practical skills for learning and research.

💻 Workshop 1: Introduction to Programming in Python

Learn Python basics, Jupyter notebooks, and how to access online data using Google Colab.

📊 Workshop 2: Data Science with Python Pandas & Large-Scale Computing
📅 Friday, September 11 | 2–6 PM
Explore data manipulation and analysis with Pandas and learn about computing resources available through the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC).

🧠 Workshop 3: Introduction to Machine Learning

Learn fundamental machine learning concepts, large-scale training and inference using PSC, and the basics of generative AI and large language models.

A new academic year is officially underway at West Chester University! 💜💛

The CSM team was excited to kick off the 2026–2027 academic year as Welcome Volunteers, helping students navigate campus, find their way, answer questions, and start the semester feeling connected and supported.

Congratulations to recent Biology graduate Gianna Parrish (B.S. ’26) on earning First Place for her presentation at the Society for Freshwater Science Annual Meeting in Spokane, Washington! 🎉🏆

Gianna presented her research, “Influence of trash substrate on biofilm growth and metabolic activity in urban streams,” and was recognized among presentations at an international meeting attended by more than 1,000 participants.

During her time at WCU, Gianna not only excelled as a Biology student researcher, but also served as a CSM Student Ambassador, working closely with the Dean’s Office to support events, represent the College, and help strengthen the CSM community.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this achievement and recognize Gianna’s hard work, dedication, and contributions both inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations, Gianna, on this outstanding accomplishment—we can’t wait to see what comes next! 👏🔬🌱

This summer, BIO 387 students had the opportunity to take part in an immersive field course led by Dr. Anne Boettger, Professor of Biology, at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station—bringing Marine Science to life through hands-on learning experiences both in and beyond the classroom.

Throughout the course, students engaged in field work while exploring multiple areas of marine and environmental science, including:

🦀 Visiting a crab shedding house to observe ecdysis
🦪 Touring an oyster culture facility at Horn Point Laboratories to learn about aquaculture techniques and requirements
🌊 Participating in a horseshoe crab survey and tagging event with Inland Bays as part of ongoing conservation efforts

The course welcomed students from West Chester University, other PASSHE institutions, and beyond, providing meaningful opportunities to explore marine science pathways and gain real-world experience in the field.

Thank you to Dr. Boettger and all involved for creating such an impactful experiential learning opportunity for our students. We love seeing learning extend beyond the classroom and into the environments students are studying. 👏

Congratulations to Dr. Ronald A. Sloto, Honorary Professor in Earth and Space Sciences and Curator/Director of the Geology Museum at West Chester University, on being featured in the latest edition of The Mineralogical Record following his recognition as the recipient of the 2025 Carnegie Mineralogical Award! ⛏️🏆

Presented by Carnegie Museum of Natural History, this award honors outstanding contributions to mineralogical preservation, conservation, and education.

Dr. Sloto’s decades of work have helped preserve and document mineralogical history through research, education, and stewardship of geological collections. Throughout his career, he has documented more than 1,400 mineral localities and played a significant role in revitalizing geological collections at WCU—helping connect professional geology, education, and the collecting community.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for Dr. Sloto’s continued impact on the Earth and Space Sciences community and beyond. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement! 👏

Congratulations to Mathew Wileyto and Frank Fish, Professor of Biology at West Chester University, on their recent publication in Integrative Organismal Biology! 🐢🌊

Their paper, “Aquatic turning performance in juvenile loggerhead and green sea turtles,” explores how juvenile sea turtles maneuver and turn while swimming, offering new insight into the biomechanics of aquatic movement and how body structure influences performance.

Using video analysis and custom modeling techniques, the study examined turning behavior in loggerhead and green sea turtles, contributing valuable research to the fields of biology, biomechanics, and marine science.

We are proud to celebrate the impactful research and collaboration happening within CSM at West Chester University! 👏
