"The problem with what I believe is true karate is the fact that there are so many dojo heads and instructors pushing the sports aspect of karate, firstly because it is more attractive to the general public, a lot easier to teach without a deep knowledge of the essence of karate and in many cases more lucrative. Medals and trophies become the priority as opposed to the benefits both mental and physical that true karate offers. There are no medals for acquiring a good character, no trophies for etiquette, no awards for developing confidence, awareness, honour and integrity. But those who persevere for many years in true karate get the greatest reward eventually - the satisfaction and fulfilment seeing the results of imparting their ethics, wisdom and knowledge to many others. This is TRUE KARATE."
