Member of the Month — Katie Brown

Katie came to Cornerstone scared.

She’ll say it herself. CrossFit was completely new territory, and she wasn’t sure she could rise to it. Her goal wasn’t a PR or a program — it was simpler and harder than that. Try something new. Accept that she’d have limits. Work hard. Stay consistent. See what happened.

What happened is she’s still here.

The biggest obstacle was never the movements or the weights. It was herself. Going slow isn’t her natural speed, and learning CrossFit requires exactly that — patience, adjusted expectations, and the willingness to trust that progress is happening even when you can’t see it yet. She had to get out of her own way and keep showing up anyway.

The coaching staff made that possible. Katie is direct about it: she doesn’t think she’d still be coming without them. Walking into Cornerstone for the first time was intimidating. What she found was a staff that met her where she was from day one — teaching, encouraging, and supporting without regard for experience level. They knew when to push her and when to remind her to trust the process. They celebrated the wins that only matter if you’ve been there, like making it through a workout that left her wondering if she’d ever get off the floor.

Most importantly, they believed in her when she didn’t always believe in herself.

The community held her up on the hard days. On the days she wanted to quit, she’d look around at the people beside her still working, and find something to match. The exhausted smiles and sweaty fist bumps after a tough workout — she’s come to love those. That’s what this place actually feels like from the inside.

And through all of it, her boys are watching.

That’s the part that matters most to Katie. She wants them to see that moms can be strong. That committing to yourself is something to be proud of. That fear isn’t a reason to walk away from something hard.

She started scared. She kept showing up. She found strength she wasn’t sure she still had.

That’s Cornerstone.

Huge thanks to our community for making the youth training program happen over the summer. Today is bitter sweet as we bring that summer program to a close and wish all our athletes well as they kick off a new school year.

Keep your eyes peeled for youth training options coming this fall. We’re wrapping up some exciting conversations and can’t wait to share the next phase of building resilient young athletes.

Member of the Month — Randy Dunlap

Some people come to Cornerstone chasing a PR. Randy came to get moving again.

At 70-something, coming off a torn PCL, that was the goal — not a number on the bar, not a time on the whiteboard. Just movement. Just the possibility of getting some of it back.

What he brought with him was a lifetime of being active, and the honest reckoning that comes with age. He’d been fit his whole life. He knew the work. But he also knew what most people his age quietly wrestle with: the gap between who you were and where you are now gets harder to close with every passing year. The motivation to try isn’t always enough to get you out the door.

The coaches gave him a reason to show up anyway. Encouragement and accountability, yes — but more than that, a program varied and challenging enough to keep him growing rather than just going through the motions. That distinction matters. Showing up to something that meets you where you are, and then asks a little more, is what builds momentum.

The community handled the rest. Randy calls Cornerstone the friendliest and most welcoming gym he’s ever attended — and he’s attended a few. That atmosphere, paired with the quality of the work, is what has him moving again.

And moving leads to more. That’s what Randy has found. Regaining strength and fitness isn’t the finish line — it’s the on-ramp. He’s doing more now because he can.

That’s not a small thing for anyone. At any age.

Congrats, Randy. Keep moving.

Did you know, Cornerstone Fitness is an official HYROX Training Club!?

We love introducing people to the movements they’ll see in a HYROX race and helping them build confidence to take on an official event.

Come join us on Sundays at 10:00am to check it out.

Our classes for the next few weeks have been specifically designed to be the perfect primer for the Tri-State Half-Rox, too!

Moms, dads, grandparents, young athletes, and everything in between.

Our classes are full of all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. Some people come to us with decades of training experience and some people come in and have never seen a barbell before, let alone picked one up.

We serve all of them with a level of care and kindness many haven’t experienced before.

What are you waiting for?

Who needs to come try a class? Send this to them.

Gym time isn’t just time in the gym.

It’s a reset, a retreat, a reminder, a recentering, a rallying cry for the person you’re becoming.

It’s not just an hour, it’s an unlock to making the rest of life fall into place.

The fitness part is important, sure, but it’s so much more than that.

Don’t believe me? Come find out for yourself.
