We love ending the first week of school with all of our students, faculty, and staff (and the Moose, of course 🫎) gathered in the Greenwood for our All-School Assembly! It was wonderful to have our community together for reflection, music, the traditional roll call of the classes, and the return of our senior class presenting the youngest Westonians with a sapling. This summer Upper School History & Religion Department Chair Joseph Daniels traveled to South Korea with a group of K-12 educators as part of a project focused on developing curriculum materials on Korean history and culture, supported by a grant from the University of Pittsburgh and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA). Along the way, Joseph joined the Seoul Monthly Meeting for Meeting for Worship and carried a special piece of Westtown with him: books collected by students and colleagues through the Middle School’s Lisa’s Little Library project, created in memory of beloved Teacher Lisa Cromley. He donated the books to the Seoul Outdoor Library in her honor.

School may not be in session, but we thought you might be in the mood for a little history lesson! This spring, first graders in Teacher Ann’s class learned about Westtown’s history and put together a timeline that started from our founding in 1799 and went all the way to the opening of the new Lower School Playscape in 2025. Just before the end of the year, we celebrated our Deep Dive Certificate recipients. This year’s recipients designed their own path from passion to successful capstone projects in the areas of Sustainability Leadership; Global Leadership; Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice; and Data-Driven Change. To earn these certificates, they built portfolios of work that met specific academic requirements, had off-campus immersion experiences, participated in extra-curricular or co-curricular activities, and presented their projects to their peers. The Deep Dives represent a tremendous amount of independent scholarly work and are a significant academic achievement. Congratulations to all!
