I’m very excited for my 3rd year doing a Masterclass at the Sweetwater headquarters in Fort Wayne Indiana Thursday November 6th and 2nd year at Purdue of Fort Wayne where I’ll be teaching again in there state of art Russ Berger Atmos Studio! I’m very excited to be around all of the passionate people at Sweetwater headquarters! So are some of my students that will also be making the trip to this great facility! Unlike a drum clinic, students will be participating in this 3 hour intimate experience! I will be sharing concepts on how to become a more musical, creative, and valuable drummer/musician in any situation. I will be teaching you how to develop useful musical grammar in your own drumming giving you the ability to create melodies and strengthen your grooves and fills using any musical phrase. I will also be demonstrating how I use counting out loud to connect the mind and body thus helping internalize and process any musical phrases on a more accurate and deeper level. If you can say it you can play it!

I’ll be demonstrating the Beat-Note music notation app to help any drummer or teachers transcribe and hear their own musical ideas or exercises at any tempo. You will also be able study my material from the masterclass using the app! I will also be demonstrating using the Groove Clix app to practice playing with music in different styles, and feels any tempo. These are tools I wish we had when I was coming up!

I’m very excited to announce a 2nd round of 6 sessions of our music production course (small group) taught by longtime student/engineer Conner Hillman ( Berklee College of Music, Atrium Audio) at The Drum Fort Studios! It was great to see student of different levels of experience learn more efficient techniques and become more confident in learning this valuable skill! This six class course offers a very hands-on, personal experience in drum recording and production using Logic Pro. Each week builds on the last, with the goal of being able to help each student walk away with the confidence and knowledge to record there own music and how to use Logic Pro. Each student will be recording drums or instrument of your choice as well as being the engineer I always found myself personally going down a terrible rabbit hole of YouTube videos trying to learn this skill with no luck. Our goal is to help you learn this at your own pace and be able to get hands on practice applying these skills to your own life!

What a great weekend of gigs, lessons, and 90 minute Pad Classes! It’s always really great to see the students progress and still have fun. So show up and start getting some accountability and gain knowledge that will help you become a better musician! Next classes will be in 2 weeks . All levels and musicians are welcome in these are small group classes so you get lots of attention. Have a great week! 🥁

Another great 90 minute pad class! So grateful for all of the friends that put in the work in these classes! The smart work pays off! One of the many concepts we work on in the classes is understanding how to use musical vocabulary in a groove or solo applications. Most of us, myself always included, learned the rudiment sheets with limited ways to apply them musically. Eventually we need to learn how to use the sticking patterns musically in a sentence instead of playing a sentence that says the the the the over and over again. Learning to combine these stickings and eventual linear patterns will give you endless creativity and are always in your tool box to use in any songs! Again this is one example of material we work out in our brain, and then on a pad to be applied on a drum set or on other instruments. Another great night teaching these students how to shape and phrase there drum parts on a blank canvas. This is something I’m always working on in my own practice. This is a skill set I know a lot of drummers struggle. It so great to help these student see how to play musical ideas that are for the songs and not for themselves. We’ve all been guilty of that including myself wanting people to like what I could do instead of playing the music for my band mates and the audience. Developing this skill set is fun and will get you out of your own way! Tonight at 7pm I’ll be teaching a 90 minute pad class in West Chester PA at ! Come join this fun supportive group of all levels and start to learn the grammar of a language you’re trying to speak! These classes will help you improve your technique and ability to be creative on any instrument! This skill set is extremely valuable for playing music live and in the studio. Excited to start recording sessions with the students this week! There are no drums parts to copy. The students will learn to make good musical choices and build a drum part that will help tell a story in the music. It’s very fun and interesting to see what each individual comes up with and how they learn to shape their part in the song.
