On Tuesday, August 4, 2020 the Beekmantown Central School District will send caregivers and students a final school choice selection form. We will make every effort to fulfill your choice. We previously sent out the preliminary survey and we thank the community for the amazing response and feedback. Your efforts helped us build this final school choice selection document which families will receive on Tuesday.
Below are the options available for parents which will appear on the selection document:
2020-2021 Instructional Options
The Beekmantown Central School District will offer families three choices for the 2020-21 school year. Parents of students in K-12 will choose In Person, Virtual Option or home school. These different instructional options will meet or exceed the recommendations for school reopening provided by the NYSED, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Health. We anticipate the guidance will change and we are ready to adjust as needed. BCSD caregivers will be able to choose from three different learning environments, but once selected you may request to move to In Person or Virtual and you will be placed on a waiting list. The options are:
In Person: Students and teachers will attend class in-person, five days a week, with multiple mandatory safety measures in a meeting or exceeding state and federal guidelines and recommendations. Classes and grade levels will look different as we address multiple issues.
The Beekmantown Virtual School of Learning and Development (4.5 +.5) K-12: This virtual (remote) learning option which includes 4.5 days of virtual learning and a half day of in person learning and socialization. All K classes will be half day. This option is not available for PreK. Teachers will utilize specific tools and the Google platform consisting of both:
Synchronous learning is defined as two-way, real-time, live, instruction between teachers and students, through the Chromebooks and PC’s.
Asynchronous learning is a curricular experience where students engage in the learning materials on their own time, interacting intermittently with the teacher via the computer or other electronic devices.
Students will also have the option of weekly visits to meet and discuss education with teachers and classmates. This in person edu-social option is available for parents and students wanting minimal face to face contact with peers and educators.
Meals will be available for pick up or potentially delivery.
Home School: Beekmantown Central School District recognizes the rights and responsibilities of parents in the education of their children. Home school parents take on the full responsibility of educating their children. Homeschooling is a viable education choice, subject to laws and regulations of New York State. We can help provide direction and answer questions as you navigate through the homeschool process.
Please be aware that homeschooled students do not receive credits or a High School Diploma. You may request a determination of substantial equivalency from the Superintendent of Schools.
At Beekmantown Central School District we continue to strive to provide world class instruction and learning which meets the unique needs of all of our students and families. We value our school community and appreciate the trust you have placed in our school system. We look forward to seeing you for the 2020-21 school year.
Not all families regularly check their email over the summer so we encourage you to draw this notice to their attention.
