Ep.6.19.5 Rooted In Love

As a positive way to end our first week of digital/remote learning We would like to share this uplifting video. It is a wonderful way to shift our thinking about what is happening in our lives right now.

Recently the high school counselors were in math classes teaching our social-emotional curriculum and taught a lesson on a concept called "the 90/10 Rule". This video parallels it quite well:)

Released 2020-03-16

Dear BMS & BHS Families

We understand that the timing and uncertainty of the recent public health crisis has forced us to change some of our daily practices and routines. This can be stressful and unsettling for each member of our school community. Please know that our district is committed to ensuring that the community uses and sees the school as a resource and partner through this challenging time.

Distance learning will begin for every student on Wednesday, March 18th. We are dedicated to providing our students with high-quality educational experiences whether that is face-to-face or virtually through Google. We value the individual progress each student has made this year and are eager to continue that growth.

We realize that your children will develop new daily habits given the sudden change in routine; it is our hope to create a seamless transition to digital learning for the next few weeks. We are fortunate that Google Classroom has been a platform that students have been using for some time. We expect that your children will log-in to each of their teacher’s Google Classrooms to obtain agendas, expectations, and assignment(s). All teachers will be utilizing this platform to communicate with their students. It is imperative that you and your child check email daily. Attendance will be taken everyday by way of submitted assignments. These daily assignments will vary in complexity and will be due by 11:59 PM. Failure to meet the daily targets for each content area will impede the students' educational progress. For additional information on Google Classroom, please see attached Google Classroom Parent Guide.

All of your child’s teachers will be available daily for instructional support via office hours. Teacher office hours will consist of 2 hours per day. A full schedule of teacher availability for your child will be posted to the district website, “MS/HS Covid-19 Resources”.

Additionally, on a daily basis, your child will be connecting to a teacher through Google Meet. This “live” interaction ensures face-to-face contact and the ability for our teachers to touch base with students to assess any additional needs.

Students will be able to pick up their chromebooks, textbooks, medication, and personal items tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th. In order to ensure that we follow the social distancing recommendation of 8 feet, we have developed a schedule for students to come into the building at the following times to retrieve their belongings. Please note that only STUDENTS are allowed in the building and must enter at their respective building entrance (high school main entrance/middle school loop). If you are picking up your child’s medication, please contact the school nurse and she will be able to bring it to you. Again, only students are allowed in the building at this time. Students who are unable to come in during the scheduled times will need to contact the main offfice between the hours of 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM.

Last name Can enter building during beginning with following scheduled times:

A-B 8:00-8:30 AM & 3:00-3:30 PM

C-E 8:45-9:15 AM & 3:45-4:15 PM

F-K 9:30-10:00 AM & 4:30-5:00 PM

L-P 10:15-10:45 AM & 5:15-5:45 PM

R-Z 11:00-11:30 AM & 6:00 PM-6:30PM

Beekmantown Central School District is committed to continuing to provide nutritious meals to all residents of our district age 18 and younger. Please complete the following form if you are interested in receiving this service. Nutritious Meal Distribution Form

We are also extremely dedicated to continuing to support our students social emotional well-being by providing counseling services. Counselors may be reaching out to your child and will be establishing office hours. Information regarding these services may be found under “MS/HS Covid-19 Resources” on the district webpage. If your child is receiving BHSN services, the clinicians will be in contact with families to make arrangements to continue services.

Please be reminded that social distancing is essential in stopping the spread of this virus and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members. Please discuss with your child the importance of following this recommendation by the CDC and World Health Organization.

In closing, Beekmantown Central School District is dedicated to providing constant, clear communication with our students and families. The successful implementation of distance learning relies heavily on our ability to work collaboratively between school and home. We greatly appreciate your unwavering support at this time. If you have any questions, please email or call the appropriate main office.

Kind regards,

Beekmantown Middle and High School Administrative Team
