Thanks for the shoutout!

Come check out some great vendors tomorrow at The Wildwood Farm and Forest School for Winter at Wildwood 2022
For I have to shout out some of the businesses that got us through this pandemic in the most meaningful ways: Farmer Matt, Ragged Hill Dairy, The Wildwood Farm and Forest School, Hardwick Farmers Co-Op, Farmer at the Door, Esselon Coffee Roasting Frederyque's Delights and Cupcakes & Confections by Jana (two bakers in town who have DELIVERED CUPCAKES - I consider this a mental health service) Talk of the Town, and this might be a slight stretch on small but Atkins Farms Country Market. We haven’t needed to (or wanted to) shop in any big box stores since this pandemic hit cause it’s the SMALL businesses that stepped up. If you’re local, check these folks out, they rock.

The Wildwood Acres Farm and Forest School was created to meet a community need during the Covid-19 crisis of 2020.

It is intended to supplement home schooling or the limited public or private schooling available during this time.

Operating as usual

Hey there Wildwood Community! We are seeking some guidance to improve our winter programming in order to better meet the needs of our families and keep us sustainable. We always hope to offer an option in our interim 6 week winter session which is both useful to families, and allows us to keep things sustainable for staffing as well.

We like to stick to a shorter day to avoid frigid mornings and allow time for sticky commutes without detracting from your scheduled day. So typically 10-2(ish) is the warmest range.

We can do day- specific programming for consistency ( every Tuesday etc) or full weeks. We are also open to other ideas if anyone can think of a model that would make some type of programming accessible.

If you have a moment, and could drop us a line about how to improve our winter offerings to better serve our community, we would so appreciate it!

And even had plenty of time for sledding, snowball fights, and snow angels.

We focused on wildlife in winter this week! We talked about animal tracks and looked for some on our hikes, read stories about hibernation, built cozy animal dens, and made suet feeders and popcorn and cranberry strands for the birds.

Just a reminder that Wildwood Farm and Forest School is closed for the week of Thanksgiving. We will return to our regular program next week on the 29th. Wishing our wild ones everywhere a Happy Thanksgiving!

This week the Wildwood kids celebrated gratitude. We stayed warm by the fire, made ornaments, did a gratitude scavenger hunt, and made snacks over the fire. We even had some snowflakes!

We had an A-neigh-zing horse week part 2! 🐎 The wild ones worked on their horsemanship skills, cleaned some tack, and got to know our ponies and horses better than ever. The horses definitely felt the love 🤎

Horse week 1 was full of fun! The Wildwood gang learned a lot about horses: how we take care of them, the equipment we use with them, and how to work with them safely. Each student had a chance in the saddle and our older groups helped lead our younger groups. We're all ready to gallop into Horse Week Part 2!

We had a warm and fuzzy week talking about fiber! 🐑🐐🦙🐇 The wild ones learned about the process of making animal fiber into cloth, tried their hand at fiber crafts, and had some time caring for our fiber animals.

What a scrumptious week! The Wildwood kids learned about preserving, canning, following recipes. The older groups made canned pickles or dilly beans and the preschoolers made some delicious apple sauce.

It was chicken and duck week at Wildwood 🐓🦆🐔🐣🥚Theses wild ones learned about the life cycle of a chicken, how we care for our feathered friends on the farm, collected eggs and then tried out a float test to check for bad eggs! We even built our own giant nest!

THAT'S A WRAP! Today was the last day of the semester for Thursday's kids. These guys worked hard cleaning up our spaces, binding their journal pages, and loving on the animals. Our step up certificate ceremony ended our day with a bang.

We hope you all have one wild summer! 💚🌞

Photos from The Wildwood Farm and Forest School's post 06/15/2022

Last of the Wednesday group for the Spring! We had a fun day before our step up certificate ceremony. There was a newt, some frogs, and a birdsnest discovery! Oh, and a bunch of happy wild things!

Photos from The Wildwood Farm and Forest School's post 06/14/2022

It's our last week before summer break and our Tuesday group received their step up certificates and bound the pages of their journals together to take home. We also had a short notice "frog wedding" complete with a frog couple, a grass bouquet, and a processional to their brook home. What better way to cap off the semester?! 🎩🐸🐸💐 Stay wild, Tuesdays!

Photos from The Wildwood Farm and Forest School's post 06/09/2022

What started out as a stormy kind of morning gave way to a sunny day and we're so happy it did! We spent the rainy morning listening to the next chapter of our read along and the rain stopped just in time for animal care. After lunch we looked for frogs and made some collages.

Photos from The Wildwood Farm and Forest School's post 06/08/2022

We're glad that the sunshine decided to show itself today after all! The Wildwood kids had a busy day with lots of animal care, frog hunting, and extra pony time.

Photos from The Wildwood Farm and Forest School's post 06/07/2022

We are in the second to last week of our Spring semester at Wildwood. Today, preschoolers who are moving up into our All-ages group were given an introduction to their new morning routine by joining the big kids.
