West Branch Schools and 5041 CyBears Robotics are excited to offer a new program, FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) for the upcoming season and the robot game BioBuzz!
See information and sign up below
FTC is a robotics program where students design, build, program, and compete with robots while developing teamwork, problem-solving, engineering, and leadership skills. Check out the video linked below for more info on FTC. This program is a great stepping stone to our FRC program and something more challenging for older middle school students.
Important Info
-This program is primarily for 7th and 8th grade students, with some high school FRC students participating as older mentor members.
-We plan to have at least two teams, and if enough girls are interested, one team may be organized as an all-girls team.
-Each team can consist of at most 15 members.
-Students from West Branch, West Liberty, Tipton, and homeschool families are welcome to participate.
-There is no cost to join, other than the purchase of a team shirt, which will serve as the team “uniform” for competitions.
-Students should sign up by June 30.
-We will hold at least one, and possibly more, late-summer meetings to introduce students to FTC, robot systems, and team expectations.
-The official season kicks off on September 12, 2026, with league meets from October through January, tournaments in January and February, and the championship in late February.
-Teams will likely meet once per week from kickoff through some of league play, with the possibility of additional meetings depending on student interest, team needs, and coach availability.
-Meetings will be at West Branch High School with a time TBD based on team and coach availability.
