Modified Music-ation: Music and Education for Students with Special Needs

Modified Music-ation: Music and Education for Students with Special Needs MODIFIED MUSIC-ATION- (links may be commissionable) MODIFIED MUSIC-ATION combines a basic approach to learning the fundamentals of music.

In order to play any song, the basics must first be learned: intervals, scales, melody and rhythm. MODIFIED MUSIC-ATION develops singing what you want to play FIRST. We believe that an instrument is simply an amplification of your voice. Along with music education, MODIFIED MUSIC-ATION incorporates music concepts into academics, as it assists with comprehension and ease of memory for students wit

h special needs. We also provide additional school services including:

Development of melodies for IEP Goals & Objectives
Special Education Classroom Consultation
Professional Development Workshops & Collaboration

About the Director

Jacob Levy, unlike most special educators, was diagnosed with a learning disability as a child. He has 30 years of personal experience using alternative learning techniques. Jacob’s own academic struggles helped him develop a series of unique learning techniques. Jacob found that music was the one subject that really ‘clicked’ with him. It was a language that he immediately understood. After studying music for 10 years, Jacob made connections with the fundamentals of music and successfully incorporated them into academic subjects. He began to put simple melodies to mnemonic devices commonly used for the order of math operations (PEMDAS) or the five Great Lakes (HOMES). Jacob uses similar techniques when teaching music concepts, as well as encouraging all students to SING! It is essential for children with special needs to vocalize what is on their mind which is a skill that is sometimes overlooked. The next step consists of simply translating a musical idea to a musical instrument.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND**

Hi everyone

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling online when I saw this opportunity in a fb group. I decided to take a chance and sign up for a low-cost class on creating short, simple product reviews for some extra money.

After watching the training, I went through a few hoops and signed up. I had trouble getting into the program because it’s pretty specific… but I’m pretty resilient and gritty so I kept trying.

Once accepted, it took 10 days to see my first commission… and then it didn’t stop. It’s not a ton of $ at first, but it is consistent. Basically, ANY TIME someone reviews your product video on Amazon (anywhere in the world, by the way), you get a percentage of the cost of the product… no need to buy anything special; I literally reviewed anything and everything in my house. If it’s on Amazon, you can review it. I even reviewed stuff at my in-laws house 😂

I am still shocked when I wake up daily to a commission by doing very little work (see attached screenshot)

Anyway, if anyone wants to check out the low-cost training, below is the link. ALSO, there are Facebook support groups for this program which is a total game changer (for me, at least).

Reach out with any questions:

Any trombone players out there?
Or music and in general?

Any parents trying to get their child to practice their musical instrument?

Check out this quick clip I created with the task “remember to practice your trombone” (tip: trombone can be replaced with the word “instrument” because both have 3 syllables”

Pod-Abilities: listening and adding value to people with disabilities.

Episode 1: Meet Drew Dees

Drew is a twenty-five-year-old from Gainesville, Florida. Despite living with Cerebral Palsy, he does not let it stop him from pursuing his dreams. His upbringing consisted of a simple principle that has carried him throughout life — anything can be accomplished with effort.

As a whole, Drew wants to make a difference in this world through his work, and another way he defines himself is by his work as an advocate for those with special needs. The ability to help others is a gift, and he is glad to be able to serve his community in this way. He has been involved with “Softball Palooza,” a benefit softball tournament for Special Olympics Florida, as well as served as a mentor to children with developmental disabilities and other special needs at the annual Florida Youth Leadership Forum. Additionally, he currently serves as the Media Relations Coordinator for the Night to Shine Prom at Grace United Methodist Church, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

Drew is currently pursuing a career as a Multimedia Journalist.

If you would like to be a guest on the next episode of Pod-Abilities to share your story, please comment or send me a DM.

In honor of international day of people with disabilities, I’m reposting a video I made at the beginning of the pandemic.

I touch on my experience growing up with an invisible disability.

It sheds a different light on disability by adding elements of popular culture.

I can’t control my past but I am in control of the present, how I shape my future, how I view my disability and how I educate others.

If anyone is interested, check out a wonderful organization for those affected by hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus Association

From research, medical opinions, parent support, etc. I spoke to the group yesterday to discuss ways I can help people how to aid weak memory retrieval using short melodies paired with basic tasks.

There is an online conference at the end of the month with guest speakers and a ton of great resources:

The goal of the conference is to provide tools and connections to address the medical, educational and social complexities of living with hydrocephalus and to learn from world-renowned medical professionals and researchers.
