General Mitchell Elementary School - WAWM

Busy couple of weeks for the Mitchell Gardening Club, first planting our perennials in the lower playground beds, and then getting our vegetable seedlings going in the community garden!

A huge thank you to our incredible PTA for organizing an outstanding High Interest Day for our students!

General Mitchell 5th grade students enjoyed their field trip to the West Allis Police Department today.

Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, but everyday is Earth Day for our Garden Club!

We would like to give a shout out to The Happy Mower! Our Gardening Club students are so thankful for your clean out of the west beds and giving us some additional soil. Those gardening beds are all ready to go for planting in May! Happy Mowers

For the past two weeks, the General Mitchell Gardening Club has been working on their first project of 2026: prepping and planting seeds in gallon jugs for winter sowing. This technique allows plants to mimic the natural seed germination process. The kids will watch the jugs the next few months to see when their seeds start to grow, and then they will remove the tops of the jugs when the weather is right! The plants will be used in the school's monarch waystations, as well as in the rainwater runoff garden.

Today was a festive celebration at Mitchell, filled with the Grinch spirit among both staff and students. Our Mitchell elves, Toostie and Twinkles, joined in on the fun as well!
