Representatives of First Baptist Church of Eden recently established the Steve Adams Scholarship Fund at Rockingham Community College, creating new educational opportunities for Rockingham County students with financial need.

The scholarship honors the memory of Steve Adams, a Rockingham County native whose lifelong commitment to service and community inspired the gift. Adams attended North Carolina State University before beginning a career with the National Security Agency in Maryland. After retiring, he returned to Rockingham County and remained committed to helping others improve their lives.

According to church representatives, Adams believed that even a small amount of assistance could help people build a brighter future for themselves. His desire was to give back to the community that had given so much to him, particularly by supporting local residents facing financial challenges.

The Steve Adams Scholarship will support traditional students from Rockingham County who demonstrate financial need and merit while pursuing a degree, diploma, certificate, workforce credential, or continuing education program at RCC. Preference will be given to members of First Baptist Church of Eden and students who have demonstrated involvement in a Christian church or youth group. RCC’s Financial Aid Office matches students with scholarships.

The scholarship may be used to help cover tuition, fees, or other barriers to education and is intended to help students access training and credentials that lead to meaningful employment opportunities.

Community members who wish to help increase the impact of the scholarship and more fully support a student’s tuition and educational expenses for the year are invited to contribute by mailing a check to RCC Foundation Inc, PO Box 38, Wentworth NC 27375-0038. Please note “Steve Adams Scholarship Fund” on the memo line, or by calling the RCC Foundation at 336-342-4261 ext. 2201.
