This summer took Sophia Tomassoni ('28) to Bangkok, Thailand. 🇹🇭 Psychology and Fine Arts double major Sophia Tomassoni spent two months serving with NightLight International. She led art therapy sessions and computer classes at a shelter for foreign women recovering from trafficking or sexual exploitation as they waited to legally return home.

Looking back on the experience, Sophia said one of the most important lessons she learned was "how little power we have when it comes to healing." She reflected, "The greatest agency I had was to plea with God to bring healing into these women's lives."

Studying the imperfections that shape new materials. ⚛️ This summer, Rachel Runge ('27), a Physics major, conducted materials science research with Professor Mina Lim. Through computer simulations, Rachel modeled carbon vacancies in High Entropy Carbides (HECs) to better understand how defects in the crystal lattice affect the material's properties.

This research builds on the group's recently published work by examining how changes in the local bonding environment help explain those effects.
